P-BRUINS FALL TO RIVER RATS 3-1
Back at The Dunk Sunday vs. Manchester Monarchs
Albany, NY - The Providence Bruins fell to the Albany River Rats 3-1 Saturday evening at the Times Union Center. The P-Bruins got their lone goal from Mikko Lehtonen. The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday at 4:05 p.m. for a Family Game against the Manchester Monarchs.
The River Rats took a 1-0 advantage at the 12:36 mark, while on the power play. Stefan Chaput tallied his fifth goal of the season, while Zach Boychuk and Bryan Rodney recorded the assists. The P-Bruins tied the game at one at the 17:41 mark, while on the power play. Dany Sabourin picked the puck up in the crease and sent it down the ice for Trent Whitfield. He left the puck for Lehtonen halfway up the boards, who skated into the left face off circle and shot the puck into the net for his tenth goal of the season. The game went into the first intermission tied at one.
Albany grabbed a 2-1 advantage at the 14:09 mark of the second period. Boychuk scored unassisted, his seventh goal of the season. The River Rats took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
The River Rats finished off the scoring with an empty net goal at the 19:57 mark of the third period. Nicolas Blanchard netted his fourth goal of the season, while Steven Goertzen and Mike Angelidis picked up the assists. Albany went on to the 3-1 victory.
Sabourin stopped 26 of 28 shots for the P-Bruins, while Mike Murphy made 33 saves for the River Rats. The P-Bruins were 1-for-1 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
