PIRATES SINK P-BRUINS AT THE DUNK

Mark Mancari Leads Portland to 5-1 Win

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell 5-1 to the Portland Pirates on Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on the strength of a hat trick from Mark Mancari. Veteran David Ling scored the game's first goal for Providence, but the P-Bruins were held scoreless for the final 50 minutes of the game.

The P-Bruins scored the game's first goal on the power play when Ling found the net for his second time this season at 9:54 of the first. Joe Colborne skated past the net to Portland goalie Jhonas Enroth's left, passed back to Ling, who was waiting at the crease for a chance. Wyatt Smith also got an assist on the game-opening score.

Portland answered, though, just over a minute after Ling's goal as Drew Schiestel recorded his second goal of the season. Mancari flipped the puck to Schiestel just inside the blue line, and Schiestel's slapper beat Providence starting goalie Nolan Schaefer to tie the game.

With five seconds to go in the period, Mancari cracked the goal column as well with another shot just inside the offensive zone. A Jeff Penner roughing penalty sent the faceoff to Schaefer's left and Mancari buried a shot off of the faceoff win for Portland for the power play strike to make it 2-1.

The Pirates discovered the net twice more in the middle frame, with Mancari scoring his second goal. Four and a half minutes into the period, he launched a wrist-shot off of both the crossbar and the left post that snuck past Schaefer. Matt Ellis was credited with the lone assist on Mancari's third point of the night.

With the period winding down, Portland invaded the net again. Corey Tropp scored his second goal of the year when Marc-Andre Gragnani fed him toward the back of the slot. Tropp streaked through and slipped the puck in for a 4-1 Pirates lead. At that point, Schaefer was pulled in favor of rookie Michael Hutchinson. Schaefer's night ended with 15 saves.

In the third period, Mancari netted his fourth point of the night with his third goal. In the last minute of the game, the forward wristed the puck past Hutchinson from the left faceoff circle.

Each team was 1-for-5 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill. Hutchinson finished the night with seven saves in 23:23, while Enroth had 33 stops and earned the victory.
