P-BRUINS FALL TO PIRATES 4-2

Back at The Dunk Sunday vs. Hartford Wolf Pack

Portland, ME - The Providence Bruins fell to the Portland Pirates, 4-2 Saturday evening at the Cumberland County Civic Center.  The P-Bruins got goals from Vladimir Sobotka and Brad Marchand.  The P-Bruins next home game is Sunday, October 11 at 4:05 p.m. against the Hartford Wolf Pack.

The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 7:31 mark of the opening period, while on a 5-on-3 power play.  Alain Goulet held the puck at the right point and left it to Andy Wozniewski at the left point.  He found Sobotka moving towards the net, as Sobotka tallied his first goal of the season.  Providence made it 2-0 at the 13:53 mark, while once again on a 5-on-3 power play.  Mikko Lehtonen held the puck behind the net and sent it to the slot for Wozniewski.  He took a shot and the puck went off the crossbar.  The rebound landed on the stick of Marchand, who netted his fourth goal of the season.  The P-Bruins went into the first intermission with a 2-0 lead.

The Pirates cut the lead in half at the 1:19 mark of the second period, while on the power play.  Nathan Gerbe tallied his second goal of the season, with Mark Mancari and Marc-Andre Gragnani grabbing the assists.  Portland tied the game at the 3:41 mark.  Mancari netted his first goal of the season, while Mike Weber and Paul Byron recorded the assists.  The Pirates took their first lead of the game at the 5:28 mark.  Byron scored his first goal of the season, while Jeff Cowan and Weber had the assists.  Portland led 3-2 after two periods.

The Pirates took a 4-2 lead at the 16:07 mark of the third period.  Kyle Rank tallied his first goal of the season, while Travis Turnbull picked up the lone assist.  Portland held on for the 4-2 victory.

Dany Sabourin stopped 32 of 36 shots for the P-Bruins, while Jhonas Enroth made 28 saves for the Pirates.  The P-Bruins were 2-for-5 on the power play and 6-for-7 on the penalty kill.
