P-Bruins Return To The Dunk Sunday Versus Lowell
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Portland Pirates 4-3 Friday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Martin St. Pierre, Jeremy Reich, Vladimir Sobotka and Mikko Lehtonen. The first place P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday for a Family Game versus the Lowell Devils at 4:05 p.m.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 12:21 mark of the opening period. Jeff Penner had the puck at the right point and worked it down the boards for Sobotka. He passed the puck through the slot to St. Pierre at the left face off circle and St. Pierre tallied his 14th goal of the season. Providence went ahead 2-0 at the 18:03 mark. Portland turned the puck over in front of the net and Reich picked it up and scored his 18th goal of the season. Providence went into the second intermission leading 2-0.
Portland pulled within a goal at the 1:04 mark of the second period, while on the power play. Mathieu Darche netted his 20th goal of the season, with Mike Kostka and Felix Schutz recording the assists. The P-Bruins went ahead 3-1 at the 12:55 mark, while on the power play. Tuukka Rask sent the puck up the ice for Johnny Boychuk. He sent it into the zone for Sobotka, giving him a breakaway. Sobotka slipped the puck into the net for his 15th goal of the season. Portland pulled back within a goal at the 15:14 mark, while on the power play. Darche tallied his second goal of the game, with Nathan Gerbe and Marc-Andre Gragnani grabbing the assists. Providence went into the second period leading 3-2.
Portland tied the game at three at the 12:30 mark of the third period. Mark Mancari netted his 24th goal of the season, while Marek Zagrapan and Zach Tarkir had the assists. Providence quickly retook the lead at the 13:50 mark. Sobotka held the puck in the corner and sent it to St. Pierre at the right face off circle. He found Lehtonen backdoor as he tallied his 24th goal of the season. The P-Bruins went on to the 4-3 victory.
Rask stopped 25 of 28 shots for the P-Bruins, while Jhonas Enroth made 22 saves for the Pirates. The P-Bruins were 1-for-5 on the power play and 4-for-6 on the penalty kill.
Providence goes back on the road Saturday to take on the Springfield Falcons at the MassMutual Center at 7:00 p.m. before wrapping up the weekend at home at The Dunk Sunday with a Family Game against the Lowell Devils at 4:05 p.m. Receive one ticket, hot dog and soda for one low price.
