THIS WEEK IN PROVIDENCE: HOME STAND

After a perfect six point road trip to Cleveland, the first place Providence Bruins (10-1-0-0) begin a five game home stand in the middle of November. Three games will be played at the Amica Mutual Pavilion this week, starting with a Wednesday night contest against Hartford, a Saturday night clash with Utica, and capping off with a Sunday afternoon battle with Laval.

Goaltender was the key in Providence’s perfect weekend in Cleveland. On Friday, Michael DiPietro stopped a career-best 43 shots as the P-Bruins outlasted the Cleveland Monsters 2-1 at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. Saturday’s contest saw Simon Zajicek battling through 28 saves to help Providence to a 3-2 overtime victory. 

The combination of Riley Tufte and Patrick Brown has been lethal to begin the season. The group of power forwards lead the team with 14 and 13 points respectively. That’s good for tied for second and third in the AHL. After recording just one point between the two of them in the two wins at Cleveland, look for this duo to bounce back in this week’s three game slate.

John Farinacci stepped up in last week’s victories at Cleveland. With Alex Steeves receiving the recall to Boston, the forward stepped up in the lineup and posted goals for his second and third straight games. On Friday, the Red Bank, New Jersey, native scored the game-winning goal, while on Saturday, he tied the game in the final frame and added an assist.
