The Providence Bruins (21-5-1-0) are challenged with a three-game week, two of which will be on the road. Holding the second best points percentage in the AHL with a .796, the P-Bruins will travel to Springfield to face-off with the Thunderbirds for a 3:05 p.m. puck drop on New Years Eve, visit Hartford to matchup with the Wolf Pack on Friday, January 2 at 6:00 p.m., then host the Thunderbirds on Sunday, January 4 at 3:05 p.m.

Earning nine out of the last possible ten points, the P-Bruins have been bolstered by Georgii Merkulov as of late. The forward tallied his first professional hat trick in a 3-1 victory over Syracuse on December 20, then posted a goal and an assist in a 7-1 win at Springfield on December 27. The Ryazan, Russia, native is currently second all-time in Providence Bruins scoring with 203 career points, trailing only Andy Hilbert (210).

Matthew Poitras found his stride in the 7-1 victory at Springfield last Saturday. The forward scored twice on the power play and added an assist in the win. Poitras has posted six goals and 12 assists in 27 games this season and is tied for the team lead with four power play goals.

Forward Matej Blumel and defenseman Michael Callahan were removed from injured reserve and reassigned from Boston to Providence. Blumel has appeared in 13 games this season with Providence, tallying two goals and 11 assists. Callahan has skated in 12 games this season with Providence, recording two assists.

The Thunderbirds are led by forward Matt Luff, who totals nine goals and 11 assists through 21 games this season. Defenseman Calle Rosén has recorded four goals and 14 assists in 26 AHL games this season. Goaltender Vadim Zherenko has notched a 6-6-3 record with a 3.01 goals against average and a .906 save percentage.
