PATERA SHINES IN PRESEASON DEBUT, P-BRUINS DEFEAT THUNDERBIRDS
Providence, RI – Goaltender Jiri Patera stopped 17 of 18 shots faced to help the Providence Bruins defeat the Springfield Thunderbirds 4-1 on Saturday night at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in the preseason finale. Forward Wyatt Bongiovanni netted the game-winning goal in the final frame, while Robert Cronin gave Providence the first lead of the game.
How It Happened
While on a 2-on-1 rush, Cronin fired a wrist shot from the right circle inside the near post to give the P-Bruins a 1-0 lead just 21 seconds into the middle frame. Joey Abate and Chris Ortiz were credited with the assists.
While shorthanded, Chris Wagner capitalized on a cross-crease pass to tie the game at 1-1 with eight seconds remaining in the second period.
On the rush, Bongiovanni walked the puck to the top of the right circle and fired a shot off the cross bar and down across the goal line to give Providence a 2-1 lead with 13:02 to play in the third frame.
Loke Johansson received credit for an empty net goal to make it a 3-1 lead for the P-Bruins with 1:24 left in the third period.
Ben Allison scored on the empty net with 21 seconds to play to give Providence a 4-1 lead. Jack Bar received an assist.

Cronin scored his second goal in as many preseason games.
Patera stopped 17 of 18 shots faced. The P-Bruins totaled 27 shots.
The power play went 0-for-2 and the penalty kill was 2-for-2.
Providence posted a 2-0-0-0 record in two preseason contests against Springfield.
