Providence, RI – The Providence Bruins were topped by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 6-2 on Sunday evening at the Amica Mutual Pavilion. Defenseman Maxence Guenette and forward Riley Duran scored goals for Providence.

How It Happened

  • Just 1:57 into the game, Phil Kemp’s one-timer from the point zipped through traffic and found the back of the net to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead.

  • From the right circle, Tristan Broz one-timed a pass inside the near post to give Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a 2-0 lead with 8:03 remaining in the first period.

  • On the rush, Bill Zonnon received a pass in the left circle and slung a wrist shot inside the far post to give the Penguins a 3-0 lead just 43 seconds into the second period.

  • Rutger McGroarty tracked a floating puck, corralled it and slung a wrist shot from the bottom of the left circle inside the near post for a power play goal to make it 4-0 Wilkes-Barre/Scranton with 15:34 to play in the second frame.

  • McGroarty protected the puck around a defenseman in the left circle while heading towards the crease, where he flipped a backhanded shot into the top shelf of the net to give the Penguins a 5-0 lead with 18:17 left in the third period.

  • Alex Steeves fed the puck to Guenette in the slot, where his snap shot found the upper-right corner of the net to cut the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton lead to 5-1 with 15:02 remaining in the third period. Brendan Gaunce was credited with a secondary assist.

  • A wrist shot from the point was redirected between the legs of the goaltender by Oliver Okuliar to give the Penguins a 6-1 lead with 10:48 to play in the third frame.

  • While on the power play, Duran backhanded a loose puck above the crease into the back of the net to make it 6-2 with 2:39 left in the third period. Lukas Reichel and Jordan Harris received assists.

Stats

  • Guenette netted his first goal as a Providence Bruin.

  • Duran scored his first goal of the season, snapping an 0-for-22 drought on the power play to start the season.
