P-BRUINS TOP T-BIRDS IN PRESEASON OPENER

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins topped the Springfield Thunderbirds 4-0 on Friday night at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in the first of two preseason contests this weekend. Goaltender Luke Cavallin stopped all 23 shots he faced to earn the shutout, while forward Brooklyn Kalmikov scored twice on the power play in the opening frame. Jacob Perreault notched three assists in the victory, while Lynden McCallum posted a goal and an assist.  

How It Happened

  • Kalmikov hammered a one-timer from the right circle inside the near post for a power play goal, giving the P-Bruins a 1-0 lead just 2:48 into the opening frame. Perreault and McCallum received the assists. 

  • Kalmikov’s wrist shot from the right circle snuck under the crossbar for a power play goal, extending the Providence lead to 2-0 with 10:31 remaining in the first period. Perreault received an assist. 

  • On a 2-on-1 rush, McCallum snapped a shot from the left circle into the top right corner of the net, giving the P-Bruins a 3-0 lead with 1:50 to play in the second frame. Loke Johansson and Jake Schmaltz were credited with assists. 

  • Zachary Massicotte fired a shot from the left point that zipped inside the right post, extending the Providence lead to 4-0 with 4:51 left in the third period. Perreault received an assist. 

Stats 

  • Cavallin stopped all 23 shots he faced. The P-Bruins totaled 21 shots.

  • The power play went 2-for-4 and the penalty kill was 4-for-4.

The Providence Bruins will travel to Springfield for the final preseason contest against the Thunderbirds on Sunday, October 5 at the MassMutual Center. Puck drop is set for 3:05 p.m.
