P-BRUINS EDGE COMETS IN SHOOTOUT

Utica, NY - The Providence Bruins edged the Utica Comets 3-2 in a shootout on Wednesday night at the Adirondack Bank Center. Defenseman Michael Callahan recorded two assists, while John Farinacci and Matej Blumel found the back of the net. Goaltender Michael DiPietro made 23 saves to earn the victory.
How It Happened
Josh Filmon chipped the puck around a defender’s stick and zipped a wrist shot from the slot past the blocker of the goaltender to give the Comets a 1-0 lead with 5:30 remaining in the second period.
Callahan’s wrist shot from the point was redirected into the back of the net by Farinacci from above the crease to tie the game at 1-1 with 2:35 to play in the middle frame. Christopher Brown received a secondary assist.
Billy Sweezey slung a wrist shot from the point that ramped up off the stick of Blumel and above the glove of the goaltender from just outside the crease to give the P-Bruins a 2-1 lead with 8:42 left in the third period. Callahan was credited with a secondary assist.
Just 1:04 later, Mike Hardman one-timed a feed into the back of the net from above the blue paint to tie the game at 2-2.
Riley Tufte and Blumel scored in the shootout, while DiPietro stopped five of six attempts.
Stats
Callahan recorded his second multi-point game of the season.
DiPietro stopped 23 of 25 shots faced. The P-Bruins totaled 34 shots.
The power play went 0-for-2 and the penalty kill was 5-for-5.
The P-Bruins improve to 50-14-1-0. Providence is 4-0 in shootouts this season.
