P-BRUINS DEFEAT ISLANDERS FOR 11TH STRAIGHT VICTORY

Bridgeport, CT - The Providence Bruins defeated the Bridgeport Islanders 4-2 on Saturday night at Total Mortgage Arena for their 11th straight victory. Forward John Farinacci scored the game-winning goal in the third period, while Frederic BrunetChristian Wolanin, and Riley Tufte found the back of the net as well. 


How It Happened

  • Cam Thiesing wrapped the puck around the net and banked it off a defender’s skate and into the back of the net to give the Islanders a 1-0 lead with 10:53 remaining in the first period. 

  • Hunter Drew collected a rebound in the low slot and flicked a backhanded shot under the crossbar to extend the Bridgeport lead to 2-0 with 12:48 to play in the second frame.  

  • From the left circle, Brunet fired a wrist shot off the right post and into the back of the net to cut the Islanders’ lead to 2-1 just 17 seconds after the previous tally. Patrick Brown and Tufte received the assists. 

  • Matthew Poitras dropped the puck for Wolanin at the top of the slot, where he hammered a one-timer off left post and into the back of the net for a power play goal to tie the game at 2-2 with 6:03 left in the second period. Matej Blumel was credited with a secondary assist. 

  • Farinacci fired a wrist shot from the left circle that sat in the crease before a Bridgeport defender accidentally flipped the puck into his own net to give the P-Bruins a 3-2 lead with 17:20 remaining in the third period. 

  • With 25 seconds to play, Tufte scored on the empty net from the far end of the ice.  


Stats  

  • Goaltender Luke Cavallin stopped 16 of 18 shots faced. The P-Bruins totaled 25 shots.

  • The power play went 1-for-1 and the penalty kill was 2-for-2. 

  • The P-Bruins improve to 36-8-1-0.

  • Providence boosted its season-best winning streak to 11 games.
