Providence Bruins

Providence, R.I. - The Providence Bruins struck first, but struggled defensively against an aggressive Comets forecheck. Utica’s Hunter Shinkaruk notched a hat trick in the Comets’ 5-1 effort.

Colton Hargrove found twine a minute and 49 seconds into the game, when his double pump fake from the top of the circle found its way past Markstrom. Ben Youds and Rob Bordson were credited with the helpers, marking Bordson’s first point as a P-Bruin.

The wheels fell off for Providence after Hargrove’s goal, with sloppy break-outs and a stingy Comets forecheck resulted in three consecutive goals for the Comets. Shinkaruk scored two of Utica’s first period goals – the first of which came on the power play and was assisted by Gaunce and Vey. Brendan Gaunce scored Utica’s third goal when his unassisted effort managed to find the back of the net.

The Comets scored a goal apiece in the second and third. 17:53 into the second period, Gaunce wrapped around the net and found Zalewski who zipped it by Subban. Shinkaruk completed his hat trick at 9:48 into the third, assists going to Grienier and Vey.

It was a family affair at the Aud, with Providence goalie Malcolm Subban playing his little brother Jordan Subban a rookie winger for the Utica Comets.

Providence comes home to the Dunk Friday November 13th where they take on the Albany Devils at 7:05pm.
