Rhode Island Building & Construction Trades Council Holds Sixth Annual Providence Bruins Hockey Night to Benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State

Providence, RI - Not only was it a big win for the Providence Bruins over the weekend, but also for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State (BBBSOS) thanks to the Rhode Island Building & Construction Trades Council. The Sixth Annual Rhode Island Building Trades Day with the Providence Bruins was held on Sunday, raising more than $2,200 for BBBSOS. More than 11-hundred tickets were sold through the Trades and their generous signatory contractors and union partners, with $2 per ticket going back to the BBBSOS.

“We are grateful for the Rhode Islanding Building & Construction Trades Council’s continuous generosity,” explained Katje Alfonseca, BBBSOS Executive Director. “Thanks to this fundraising event and the Trades’ altruism, not only did many of our little brothers and sisters have the opportunity to watch an exciting P-Bruins game, but more importantly, the funds raised will help us continue our mission of providing children facing adversity with adult mentors and positive role models. These men and women help change their lives in a positive and significant way.”

It was a fun, family-friendly night out, with free Bruins hats given out to all the children, as the P-Bruins beat the Hershey Bears in overtime, 2-1.

RIBCCTC President and Business Manager of the Rhode Island Laborers’ District Council, Michael F. Sabitoni, who also serves as Honorary Chair of the Annual P-Bruins Fundraiser, was pleased and humbled by the huge turnout. “Every year more and more of our union partners in the Building and Construction Trades and those in the Rhode Island AFL-CIO come out to support this vital organization, through various fundraising events like this one. They enthusiastically give of their time, energy and hard-earned money knowing the importance of supporting such a worthwhile organization. Those of us in the labor movement work and live in Rhode Island and care about the neighbors and families living in our communities. Collectively we are aware of the impact and the importance we make by giving back to the great state we live and work in.”
