SPRINGFIELD, MA. - Robert Lantosi scored a goal and added an assist, while Dan Vladar made 31 saves as the Providence Bruins defeated the Springfield Thunderbirds, 4-3, on Friday night. Ryan Fitzgerald, Pavel Shen and Jack Studnicka also scored for Providence in the victory. With the win, Providence regained control of first place in the Atlantic Division.

JAY LEACH, HEAD COACH

“It was a loose game early, which is expected when you have the break that both teams did. Both goalies played really well, to be honest with you. We were sorting some things out in the first and I thought we did generate a lot, but I thought we were loose.

“I thought we tightened up a bit in the second and found our way for six to eight minutes there. We put some pressure on them and their goalie made some big saves then they went down and scored. We came right back and scored to tie it and then scored again after that to take the lead. That was the turning point and what I liked the most out of our group. We persisted. We knew we were playing the right way and we were happy to be rewarded for it.”

RYAN FITZGERALD - ONE GOAL

“I think there was a turnover in our zone and I was fortunate to look up and see we had a 2-on-0. It was just kind of a quick give-and-go with Gauncer (Brendan Gaunce) and it was kind of easy to just tap that one in.

“It gets pretty heated between these two teams. We see them a lot during the season so you know tempers are going to get high at some point. It’s good for us and it’s good for them to keep that going.”

STATS

- With a goal and an assist tonight, Robert Lantosi recorded his seventh multi-point game of the season. He now sits in sixth place in rookie scoring in the AHL with 23 points (9G, 14A).

- Since returning from injury, Dan Vladar has appeared in six games, recording 169 saves on 177 shots for a .955 save percentage.
