Providence, RI – The Providence Bruins defeat the Toronto Marlies 3-1 Friday night in their 2nd meeting of the season. The P-Bruins got goals from Steven Kampfer, Lee Stempniak and Anton Blidh while Zane McIntyre made his 31st start of the season in net.

The Providence Bruins started off the 1st period moving with solid defense but slow offense. It took the P-Bruins 12:30 to register their first shot and only had three in the period. The Toronto Marlies lit the lamp first with Trevor Moore at 10:57. He beat McIntyre’s glove with assists from Calle Rosen and Michael Hutchinson and the Marlies brought 1-0 lead into the 2nd. 

The P-Bruins started off the 2nd period making a major comeback offensively, netting a short-handed goal at 7:18. With a helper from Lee Stempniak, Steven Kampfer potted his first goal of the season on a deflection in front to tie the score 1-1. The Marlies struggled to keep up as Providence tallied a second goal at 12:33 by Stempniak with an assist by Gemel Smith. He snapped his first goal of the season by Michael Hutchinson and the P-Bruins took a 2-1 lead going into the third period. 

Providence extended their lead only 5 minutes into the third period when Anton Blidh scored his 8th goal of the season, with a helper from Kampfer. At 2:23 Toronto pulled Hutchinson from the net at a last ditch effort, but ultimately fell 3-1 to Providence at the end of the 3rd period. 

McIntyre stopped 25 shots while Hutchinson 17 stopped shots. Providence was 0/1 on the power play and 4-5 on the penalty kill. The P-Bruins are back at the Dunk on tomorrow Saturday February 16th when they take on the Charlotte Checkers at 8:05pm.
