P-BRUINS DEFEAT HARTFORD WOLF PACK, 4-1

PROVIDENCE, RI – In their first meeting of the 2014-15 season, the Providence Bruins took on the Hartford Wolf Pack tonight at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

The P-Bruins had an energetic start with some great scoring opportunities in the first ten minutes of the game. As the intensity increased on the ice, Providence’s Chris Breen was sent to the penalty box for interference. Unwilling to let their momentum fall on the penalty kill, Tyler Randell made a break away into the Wolf Pack’s zone and scored a shorthanded goal at 11:32. Craig Cunningham and Steve Eminger were credited with the assists. The first period ended on a high note for the P-Bruins with a score of 1-0 and shots 13-11 in their favor.

Hartford came out of the locker room eager to get points on the board. With just 1:07 into the second period, left-winger Chris Bourque tied up the score. Ryan Potulny assisted the Wolf Pack’s first goal of the night. The P-Bruins were reluctant to lose control of the game and kept the puck primarily in the Wolf Pack’s zone. The offensive pressure paid off and Jordan Caron, who was posted up in front of the Hartford net, put one past Goaltender Mackenzie Skapski to take back the lead at 15:41. David Pastrnak and Ryan Spooner earned the assists. A little more than minute later, Steve Eminger and Brian Ferlin helped Matt Lindblad get his second goal of the season and increased Providence’s lead 3-1.

In the third period, the P-Bruins showed no signs of letting up and kept the shots in their favor throughout. At 9:38, Tommy Cross and Hartford’s Justin Vaive came to blows and earned themselves time in their respective penalty boxes. Providence went on the power play with 6:40 left to go in regulation and had some impressive chances but they were unable to capitalize on the 5 on 4. Pastrnak got his second point of the night and potted one for Providence at 17:20 with a great pass from Caron. With shots 33 to 21, the P-Bruins close out the game with a final score of 4-1.
