PROVIDENCE FALLS TO St. John’s

Morrow scores his first for the P-Bruins

The Providence Bruins fell to the St. John’s IceCaps 4-1 this evening at the Mile One CentreJoe Morrow scored his first goal of the season in the loss. Malcom Subban, in his first professional start, made 23 saves as the Bruins lost their first game of the season. 

St. John’s came out with some bite, as they found the back of the net 12:32 in the first, off of Eric O’Dell’s second goal of the season. Brenden Kichton doubled the IceCaps’ lead 5 minutes later as his slap shot from the point, found it’s way to the back of Subban’s net.  Providence was outshot 20-8 at the end of the 1st period.

St. John’s continued to control much of the play in the second. They took a 3-0 lead at 9:16 of the second on the goal by Jerome Samson.  The period ended with the IceCaps up 3-0 and outshooting Providence 32-22.

The IceCaps did not take their foot off the gas as they put their 4th goal of the game in, just 4 minutes into the 3rd, as O’Dell converted his second goal of the game to put the game out of reach.  Providence would finally get on the board at the 5:48 mark of the 3rd as Joe Morrow recorded his first goal of the season on a wrist shot that found it’s way past Eddie Pasquale.  Eric O’Dell completed his hat trick with 5 seconds to go in the game, as he passed the puck into the empty net.

The IceCaps finished the game outshooting the PBruins 41-37.  Subban finished with 36 saves.
