Tardif and Cunningham Tally Two Goals Each

Providence, RI
- The Providence Bruins blanked the Hershey Bears 6-0 this evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Kevan Miller, Colby Cohen each tallied a goal and Jamie Tardif and Craig Cunningham each scored twice.

After pummeling P-Bruins' netminder Michael Hutchinson with shots and controlling much of the play in the opening minutes of the first period, Providence shifted gears and took control of the game and at the end of the first frame, Providence had doubled Hershey's shots on net. The Bears were assessed with two penalties halfway through the frame. Providence set up for nice scoring opportunities, but Hershey's penalty kill, ranked fourth in the league, was solid and killed both man-advantages. The P-Bruins continued to out hustle the Bears in all zones, creating multiple odd-man rushes, but former P-Bruin Dany Sabourin was flawless between the pipes and the teams went into the first intermission scoreless.

Providence finally broke down Sabourin in the opening minutes of the second period. Cohen fed Tardif along the far boards and Tardif snuck a shot past Sabourin five-hole at 3:02. Two minutes later, Tardif caused a turnover in the neutral zone allowing Miller to collect the lose puck at the blue line. Miller's shot from just outside the blue line seemed to surprise Sabourin and easily went in to give the P-Bruins a 2-0 lead. Providence continued to control all facets of play, beating Hershey to the puck, reading plays and throwing big hits. Their hard work paid off at 14:48 when Tardif struck again, this time on a wrap around, for his second goal and third point of the night. Kirk MacDonald and Kyle MacKinnon assisted on the play to take a 3-0 lead and send Sabourin to the locker room early.

The P-Bruins continued to dominate the Bears, scoring three unanswered goals as the P-Bruins gave the Bears their a loss by the largest margin this season. Cohen made it 4-0 on the man-advantage at 5:04 of the final frame when his d-partner David Warsofsky passed it to him at the point and Cohen faked a slap shot and beat Braden Holtby glove side with a snap shot. Four minutes later the P-Bruins added another power play goal when Cunningham netted his 11th goal of the season. Max Sauvé tallied his first point since being sidelined with a concussion on December 9. Kevan Miller also assisted on the play, his second point of the night. Despite the five-goal lead, the P-Bruins didn't slow down offensively. Cunningham tallied his second goal of the night with one minute to play off a nice give-and-go with Jamie Arniel and Sauvé in the Bears' zone to take a 6-0 win.

Hutchinson was flawless between the pipes, stopping all 23 of Hershey's attempts. Sabourin suffered the loss, blocking 21 shots before he was relieved by Holtby, who made seven saves.
