P-Bruins to Host Home Games Friday and Sunday in Rhode Island
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins are back at the Dunkin' Donuts Center for two home games this weekend on Friday and Sunday. On Friday, the P-Bruins face the Lowell Devils at 7:05 p.m. for Winter Hat Night and Sunday the P-Bruins take on the Springfield Falcons at 4:05 p.m. for Matt Lashoff Poster Night. This past week, the P-Bruins played four games in five nights, two of which were home at The Dunk. The P-Bruins began the week Wednesday against the Devils. Kevin Regan made 14 saves in net for the P-Bruins, but Devils goaltender Jeff Frazee shutdown the P-Bruins offense as Lowell won 3-0.
The P-Bruins faced one of their division rivals, the Worcester Sharks on Friday. The P-Bruins took an early 2-0 lead on goals from Martins Karsums and Jeff Penner, but the Sharks scored three of their own in the second to take a 3-2 lead into the second intermission. The P-Bruins dominated the third period, though, as Martin St. Pierre, Matt Lashoff and Jeremy Reich each scored, giving the P-Bruins a 5-3 victory. Tuukka Rask was back in net and stopped 35 of 38 shots.
On Saturday, the P-Bruins traveled to Springfield to face the Falcons and won 2-0. The P-Bruins goals both came in the first period by Karsums and Vladimir Sobotka. Sobotka had a two-point night, adding an assist on Karsums' goal while St. Pierre had an assist on the other. Rask stopped all 27 shots to record his first shutout of the season and second of his career.
Sunday, the P-Bruins defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack in overtime, 4-3. The Wolf Pack took the early lead, before the P-Bruins got goals from St. Pierre, Andrew Bodnarchuk and Karsums. Hartford tied the game with second and third period goals to force overtime. In the extra session, Brad Marchand scored his fifth goal of the season (third game-winning-goal) off a rebound from Zach Hamill. Rask was in net for the third straight game and blocked 29 of 32 shots.
Through twenty-two games, there is a three-way tie for the top-scoring spot on the P-Bruins. Karsums (10g, 13a), St. Pierre (7g, 16a) and Johnny Boychuk (4g, 19a) each have 23 points. Sobotka is fourth on the team in scoring with 19 points (9g, 10a) and Lashoff rounds out the top five with 16 points (4g, 12a). In net for the P-Bruins, Rask is 9-5 with a 2.59 GAA and a .916 save percentage, while Regan is 5-3 with a 3.22 GAA and a .871 save percentage.
Ice Chips: The P-Bruins are leading the Atlantic Division with 29 points... Karsums, St. Pierre and Boychuk are tied for tenth in the AHL in scoring with 23 points... Boychuk leads all AHL defensemen in points, is tied for second in the league in assists with 19, ranks third in defensemen in shots with 64 and leads all P-Bruins players in power play scoring with 15 points (3g, 12a)... The P-Bruins have won six straight home games... Marchand is third among rookies in shots with 64... Lashoff is third in the league among defensemen in scoring... The P-Bruins are 8-0 at home against Atlantic Division opponents, 5-1 in overtime/shootouts, 13-0 when scoring three or more goals and 10-0 when leading after two periods... The P-Bruins are tied for the third best power play in the league, converting 21.1% of the time, while the penalty kill unit is leading the league, killing 89.2% of the time.
Byron Bitz, Kevin Schaeffer and the P-Bruins mascot "Samboni" will appear at the Shaw's on 320 Warwick Ave. in Warwick on Tuesday, December 2 from 4pm-6pm. The P-Bruins are appearing in support of the "Spirit of Giving" food drive. The non-perishable food items collected will be given to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank to help those in need. The players will also be available to sign autographs and take pictures with fans.
On Tuesday, December 2, Wacey Rabbit and Jeff LoVecchio will be appearing at the Rhode Island Blood Center in Warwick from 1:30pm-3:30pm. Fans will be able to take pictures with and get autographs from the players as well as enter to win tickets to a future game courtesy of Reebok/CCM. WEEI will also be on site doing giveaways and broadcasting live.
Andrew Bodnarchuk, Mikko Lehtonen and Jordan Knackstedt will be at FiRE+iCE located in the Providence Place Mall, Wednesday, December 3 from 6:30pm-8:30pm for a Tip-A-Bruin. Players will be signing autographs, selling discounted P-Bruins tickets and raffle tickets for autographed merchandise. All the ticket proceeds will go to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
