P-BRUINS FALL TO PIRATES 3-2

Back at The Dunk Sunday vs. Connecticut

Portland, ME - The Providence Bruins fell to the Portland Pirates 3-2 Saturday evening at the Cumberland County Civic Center.  The P-Bruins got their goals from Jamie Tardif and Josh Hennessy.  The P-Bruins are back at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday for Amica Lip Balm Night at 4:05 p.m. against the Connecticut Whale.

The Pirates took a 1-0 lead at the 7:05 mark of the opening period.  Matt Watkins tallied his second goal of the season, while Brett MacLean and Maxim Goncharov recorded the assists.  Providence tied the game at one at the 8:57 mark, while on the power play.  Hennessy held the puck behind the net and passed it up the boards to David Warsofsky at the left point.  He took a shot and the rebound landed on the stick of Tardif, who scored his fourth goal of the season.  The game went into the first intermission tied at one.

Portland made it 2-1 at the 1:03 mark of the second period.  MacLean netted his first goal of the season, while Andy Miele and Watkins had the assists.  The Pirates went ahead 3-1 at the 11:00 mark.  Watkins scored his third goal of the season, while Michael Stone picked up the lone assistThe Pirates led 3-1 going into the second intermission.

Providence pulled within a goal at the 16:32 mark of the third period.  Colby Cohen held the puck at the right point and sent it down the boards for Maxime Sauve.  He fired a shot towards the net where Hennessy picked up the rebound and scored his fourth goal of the season.  Providence was not able to score again as the Pirates held on for the 3-2 victory.

Anton Khudobin stopped 26 of 29 shots for the P-Bruins, while Curtis McElhinney made 27 saves for the Pirates.  The P-Bruins were 1-for-4 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
