P-BRUINS DEFEAT MONARCHS 3-2

Back at The Dunk Sunday vs. Norfolk

Manchester, NH - The Providence Bruins defeated the Manchester Monarchs 3-2 Saturday evening in a shootout at the Verizon Wireless Arena.  The P-Bruins got their goals in regulation from Josh Hennessy and Zack McKelvie and in the shootout from Hennessy.  The P-Bruins are back at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday for Stadium Cup Night at 4:05 p.m. against the Norfolk Admirals.

The Monarchs took a 1-0 lead at the 19:58 mark of the opening period, while on the power play.  Brandon Kozun tallied his fourth goal of the season, with Jake Muzzin and Andrei Loktionov recording the assists.  Manchester took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The P-Bruins tied the game at one at the 8:08 mark of the second period.  Matt Bartkowski had the puck in his own and worked it into the neutral zone for Ryan Button.  He carried it into the attack zone and left it for Hennessy along the boards.  Hennessy sent a shot towards the crease and the puck bounced off Monarchs net minder Jeff Zatkoff and into the net for his third goal of the season.  Providence took its first lead of the game at the 17:21 mark.  Hennessy held the puck halfway up the boards and passed it to Bartkowski at the right point.  He found McKelvie at the left point who shot the puck towards the goal where it went off the glove of Zatkoff and trickled into the net for his first goal of the season.  The P-Bruins took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.

Manchester tied the game at two at the 3:54 mark of the third period.  David Kolomatis netted his second goal of the season, while Richard Clune and David Meckler picked up the assists.  The game went into overtime tied at two.

After a scoreless overtime, the game went into a shootout.  After five scoreless rounds, Hennessy scored in round six for the P-Bruins to give Providence the 3-2 shootout victory.

Anton Khudobin stopped 27 of 29 shots for the P-Bruins, while Zatkoff made 26 saves for the Monarchs.  The P-Bruins were 0-for-4 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.
