Rookie Sauve tallies his 21st Goal of Season

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell to the Worcester Sharks 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in front of 7,332 fans. The P-Bruins received their lone goal from rookie Maxime Sauvé, his 21st goal of the season.

In the final game of the last home-and-home series of the 2010-11 regular season, Providence met its Route 146 rivals from Worcester. The P-Bruins started crashing the net early in the first frame, creating opportunities in front of Sharks rookie goalie Harri Sateri. A scuffle after the whistle led to a Worcester power play, but solid play in net from Anton Khudobin kept the Sharks off the board. Despite a late man-advantage, Providence couldn't convert, sending the teams into the first intermission scoreless.

Providence continued to test Sateri early in the second frame, as the line of Jordan LaVallee-Smotherman, Trent Whitfield and Kirk MacDonald created several scoring opportunities. However, it was Worcester that got on the board first at the 14:30 mark when former P-Bruin T.J. Trevelyan capitalized on the club's third man-advantage of the game. Providence didn't lose momentum, as it saw opportunities to tie the game from Jamie Arniel and LaVallee-Smotherman, but Sateri denied each attempt, sending the P-Bruins into the locker room trailing 1-0.

The Sharks took a two-goal lead at 7:56 of the third period when Jamie McGinn jammed the puck past Khudobin as a result of a late whistle, giving him two points in the game. The P-Bruins answered just 58 seconds later when Sauvé lit the lamp for the second straight night, beating Sateri backdoor. Alain Goulet and Arniel assisted on the play. The club continued to crash the net, seeing near scoring opportunities from Whitfield, LaVallee-Smotherman and David Warsofsky, but the late drives weren't enough as Worcester held on for the 2-1 win.

Khudobin suffered the loss, blocking 40 of 42 attempts, while Sateri earned his first professional win behind 33 saves.

The P-Bruins are back in action with two home games next weekend to close out the 2010-11 regular season. The club hosts the Portland Pirates on Friday at 7:05 p.m. for Keychain Night before traveling to Springfield on Saturday. The P-Bruins return to The Dunk on Sunday to wrap up their regular season against the Manchester Monarchs in a 4:05 p.m. tilt for Stress Ball Night.
