Providence Set to Begin 4-Game Week

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins are back at the Dunkin' Donuts Center for two home games this weekend on Friday and Sunday.  Friday, the P-Bruins face the Worcester Sharks at 7:05 p.m. for Kids Hat Night with the first 1,000 kids 12 and under receiving a free hat.  On Sunday, the P-Bruins take on the Hartford Wolf Pack at 4:05 p.m. for a Family Game.  Fans can purchase one ticket, hot dog and soda for one low price.  For tickets to either of these games, visit providencebruins.com or call 401-273-5000.  The P-Bruins have two road games during the week, Wednesday at the Lowell Devils at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday versus the Springfield Falcons at 7:00 p.m.

This past weekend, the P-Bruins played three straight games, two of which were home at The Dunk.  The P-Bruins began the weekend by facing the division-leading Portland Pirates on Friday.  The game was scoreless through two periods before Portland struck first early in the third period.  Providence quickly answered a few minutes later on a Vladimir Sobotka goal.  However, minutes after that goal the Pirates again regained the lead almost halfway through the period.  With about five minutes left in the period, Byron Bitz scored to send the game into overtime.  After a scoreless overtime, the game then went into a shootout where rookie Kevin Regan stopped all five shots he faced and National Hockey League veteran Peter Schaefer scored the lone shootout goal to give the P-Bruins a 3-2 victory. 

On Saturday, the P-Bruins traveled to Springfield to face the Falcons and fell 5-1.  The P-Bruins only goal came in the second period from Martin St. Pierre on the power play.  In the third period, recent call-up Kevin Nastiuk saw his first action in a P-Bruins uniform this season. 

Sunday, the P-Bruins doubled up the Hartford Wolf Pack, defeating them 6-3.  The Bruins saw two goals from Sobotka, giving him eight on the season, along with the first goals of the year for Zach Hamill and Schaefer.  Additional goals came from St. Pierre, his fifth on the season, and Jeff Penner, his second.  Brad Marchand (3a) and St. Pierre (1g, 2a) led the P-Bruins in scoring on the night.  Regan stopped 27 of 30 shots to get the win.

Through eighteen games, Johnny Boychuk continues to lead the P-Bruins in points with 21 (4g, 17a). St. Pierre ranks second on the team in scoring with 20 points (5g, 15a). Martins Karsums takes the third spot with 19 points (7g, 12a) and Sobotka is fourth with 14 points (8g, 6a).  Matt Lashoff, on recall to the Boston Bruins, rounds out the top five with 13 points (3g, 10a).  In net for the P-Bruins, Tuukka Rask is 6-5 with a 2.78 GAA and a .909 save percentage, while Regan is 5-2 with a 3.25 GAA and a .875 save percentage.

Ice Chips: The P-Bruins are second in the Atlantic Division with 23 points... Boychuk is tied for ninth in the American Hockey League in scoring with 21 points and is first among defensemen... He is also second in the league in assists with 17, second among defensemen in shots with 57 and leads all P-Bruins in power play scoring with 15 points (3g, 12a)... The P-Bruins have won four straight home games... Karsums and St. Pierre are both on six-game point-streaks... The P-Bruins are 11-0 when scoring three goals or more... Marchand is tied for tenth in the league in rookie scoring and is third among rookies in shots with 55... Lashoff is tied for sixth in the league among defensemen in scoring... The P-Bruins have the third best power play in the league converting 20.6% of the time, while the penalty kill unit is also third in the league killing 89.0% of the time. 

Byron Bitz, Kevin Schaeffer and the P-Bruins mascot "Samboni" will appear at the Shaws on 320 Warwick Ave. in Warwick on Tuesday, December 2 from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.  The P-Bruins are appearing in support of the "Spirit of Giving" food drive.  The non-perishable food items collected will be given to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank to help those in need.  The players will also be available to sign autographs and take pictures with fans.

On Tuesday, December 2Derick Martin and Kevin Nastiuk will be appearing at the Rhode Island Blood Center Blood Drive from 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.  Fans will be able to take pictures with and get autographs from the players as well as enter to win tickets to a future game.  WEEI will also be on site doing give-a-ways and broadcasting to get people to come down to the blood drive.

Andrew Bodnarchuk, Mikko Lehtonen and Jordan Knackstedt will be at FiRE+iCE located in the Providence Place Mall on Wednesday, December 3 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.  Players will be signing autographs, selling discounted P-Bruins tickets and raffle tickets for autographed merchandise.

Wacey Rabbit, Zach Hamill and the P-Bruins mascot "Samboni" will appear at the Shaw's on 99 East Main Rd. in Middletown on Thursday, December 4 from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.  The P-Bruins are appearing in support of the "Spirit of Giving" food drive.  The non-perishable food items collected will be given to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank to help those in need.  The players will also be available to sign autographs and take pictures with fans.
