Providence Hosts Worcester Today at The Dunk

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins (25-28-3-1, 54 PTS, 6th Atlantic) host the Worcester Sharks (25-20-3-6, 59 PTS, 4th Atlantic) this afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center for the teams' eighth of 12 regular season meetings in 2010-11. On the year, the P-Bruins are 2-4-1-0 against the Sharks and 1-2-0-0 at the Dunk.

Providence has won consecutive games for the first time since a three-game winning streak from Jan. 23-28, which includes shootout victories this weekend over both Portland and Connecticut. Most recently, the P-Bruins defeated the Whale in the Whale Bowl at Rentschler Field in East Hartford on Saturday night, coming from down 2-0 to win 5-4 in the extra session.

Worcester has lost its last three games, all coming on the road, since a six-game point-streak (5-0-0-1). The Sharks' most recent loss was at the hands of Springfield on Saturday, falling 3-2 in overtime. Worcester has allowed at least three goals in all three losses since back-to-back shutouts.

Jamie Arniel's 16 goals and 35 points are a P-Bruins team-high, while Jonathan Cheechoo leads the Sharks with 17 goals and 27 assists for 44 points. Providence goaltender Nolan Schaefer has played in the most games, going 9-15-1 with a 3.14 goals-against-average in his 28 games, while rookie Michael Hutchinson is 9-7-0 with a 3.12 GAA and .900 save percentage. On the other side, Worcester goalie Alex Stalock has a 19-17-4 record and a 2.63 GAA, but he suffered an injury in late-January that will sideline him for the remainder of the season. Daren Machesney, the club's perceived starter at this moment, is 1-2-0 with one shutout and a 3.80 GAA in four games on the year.

In the season-series, Worcester's Benn Ferriero is the leading scorer with three goals and three assists. For Providence, Arniel leads the way with two goals and two assists versus the Sharks. Between the pipes, Stalock was 3-2-0 with a 1.97 GAA and .923 save percentage against the P-Bruins, while Michael Hutchinson is 0-2-0 with a 3.50 GAA and .893 save percentage.

On special teams, the P-Bruins rank 30th (11.8%) in the league on the power play and 28th (77.4%) on the penalty kill, while the Sharks are 15th (17.4%) with the man-advantage and 26th (78.5%) when short-handed.

The P-Bruins start a three-game cross-country road trip on Wednesday when they will square off against Bridgeport, before flying out to Abbotsford to take on the Heat both Friday and Saturday. Providence will be back at the Dunkin' Donuts Center against Charlotte for Sport Bottle Night on Friday, Mar. 4 at 7:05 p.m. To purchase tickets or for more information, call the Providence Bruins' ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or log on to the team website at providencebruins.com.
