P-BRUINS DEFEAT WOLF PACK 6-3
Back At The Dunk Friday vs. Worcester Sharks
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack 6-2 Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Zach Hamill, Jeff Penner, Peter Schaefer, Martin St. Pierre and two goals from Vladimir Sobotka. The P-Bruins are back at home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday versus the Worcester Sharks at 7:05 p.m. for Kid's Hat Night.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 advantage, while on the power play at the 6:53 mark of the first period. Sobotka netted his seventh goal of the season, with Johnny Boychuk and St. Pierre picking up the assists. Providence took a 2-0 lead at the 9:47 mark. Brad Marchand worked the puck out of the corner to Schaefer behind the net. He found Hamill in the slot and Hamill scored his first goal of the season. Hartford pulled within a goal at the 10:00 mark. Devin DiDiomete tallied his second goal of the season, with David Urquhart getting the lone assist. The P-Bruins went into the first intermission leading 2-1.
In the second period, Hartford tied the game at two while on a 5-on-3 power play. At the 4:01 mark, Pierre Parenteau netted his tenth goal of the season, while Corey Potter and Patrick Rissmiller had the assists. Providence retook the lead at the 11:50 mark. Marchand worked the puck from behind the Wolf Pack net to St. Pierre along the boards. St. Pierre sent the puck to Penner at the point and he shot it off a body in the slot and into the net for his second goal of the season. Providence took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.
In the third period, the P-Bruins extended their lead at the 6:28 mark. Boychuk held the puck behind his own net and sent it up the wing for Martins Karsums. Karsums passed the puck ahead to Sobotka, giving him a breakaway. Sobotka scored his second goal of the game and eighth of the season. The P-Bruins took a 5-2 lead at the 6:58 mark. Kevin Schaeffer had the puck at the right point and passed it to Marchand in the right face off circle. He found Schaefer in the slot and Schaefer tallied his first goal of the season. Hartford cut the lead once again at the 12:39 mark. Dale Weise scored his third goal of the season with Justin Soryal and Michael Sauer getting the assists. Providence finished off the scoring at the 16:21 mark. Penner worked the puck into the zone for Jordan Knackstedt at the left face off circle. He found St. Pierre moving towards the net and St. Pierre put the puck off the crossbar and into the net for his fifth goal of the season. Providence went on to the 6-3 victory.
Kevin Regan stopped 27 of 30 shots for the P-Bruins, while Matt Zaba made 19 saves for the Wolf Pack. The P-Bruins were 1-for-3 on the power play and 8-for-9 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins return home to The Dunk Friday against the Sharks at 7:05 p.m. for Kid's Hat Night for the first 1,000 kid's 12 and under.
