P-BRUINS FALL TO FALCONS 8-2

Springfield, MA - The Providence Bruins fell to the Springfield Falcons 8-2 Saturday evening at the MassMutual Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Trent Whitfield and Jamie Arniel. Providence returns to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday at 4:05 p.m. for Poster Night against the Connecticut Whale.
The Falcons took a 1-0 lead at the 13:40 mark of the opening period, while on the power play. Maksim Mayorov tallied his 14th goal of the season, with Kyle Wilson and Tom Sestito recorded the assists. Providence tied the game at one at the 19:04 mark, while on the power play. Jeff Penner held the puck at the left point and sent it halfway down the boards for David Ling. He tossed the puck in front of the net, where it was picked up by Whitfield, who scored his fifth goal of the season. The game went into the first intermission tied at one.
Springfield went ahead 2-1 at the 1:03 mark of the second period. Trevor Smith netted his 15th goal of the season, while Wilson and Sestito had the assists. The Falcons made it 3-1 at the 2:03 mark. Mayorov scored his second goal of the game and 15th goal of the season, while Tomas Kubalik grabbed the lone assist. Springfield scored again at the 2:33 mark. Ben Guite tallied his ninth goal of the season, while Mike Commodore and Nikita Filatov picked up the assists. Springfield took a 5-1 lead at the 15:09 mark, while shorthanded. Steven Goertzen netted his fourth goal of the season, with Trevor Frischmon and Nick Holden getting the assists. The Falcons led 5-1 going into the second intermission.
The Falcons grabbed a 6-1 lead 23 seconds into the third period. Smith scored his second goal of the game and 16th goal of the season. Wilson and Sestito recorded the assists. Providence made it 6-2 at the 1:30 mark. Sean Zimmerman sent the puck out of his zone to the neutral zone for Jeremy Reich. He found Arniel cutting down the right wing, who scored from the right faceoff circle, his 15th goal of the season. Springfield made it 7-2 at the 5:14 mark. Frischmon tallied his fourth goal of the season, while Nick Tarnasky had the lone assist. The Falcons finished off the scoring at the 15:52 mark. Kubalik netted his 17th goal of the season, with Brent Regner and Mayorov getting the assists as the Falcons went onto the 8-2 victory.
Matt Dalton stopped 10 of 14 shots and Nolan Schaefer stopped 14 of 18 shots for the P-Bruins, while David LeNeveu made 19 saves for the Falcons. The P-Bruins were 1-for-5 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
