Back at The Dunk Friday vs. Hershey

Charlotte, NC - The Providence Bruins fell to the Charlotte Checkers 4-3 Sunday afternoon at the Time Warner Cable Arena.  The P-Bruins got a goal from Joe Colborne and two goals from Trent Whitfield.  Providence returns to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday at 7:05 p.m. for Reds T-Shirt Night against the Hershey Bears.

The Checkers took a 1-0 lead at the 8:22 mark of the opening period.  Riley Nash tallied his 12th goal of the season, while Jerome Samson and Drayson Bowman recorded the assists.  Charlotte led 1-0 going into the first intermission.

The P-Bruins tied the game at one at the 13:22 mark of the second period, while on the power play.  Jordan Caron held the puck inside the blue line and left it along the right boards for Jamie Arniel.  He took a shot and the puck was tipped into the net by Whitfield for his third goal of the season.  Charlotte retook the lead at the 14:04 mark, while shorthanded.  Samson scored his 25th goal of the season, unassisted.  Providence bounced back at the 19:08 mark to tie the game at two.  Maxime Sauve held the puck behind the net and left it in the slot where Colborne picked it up and scored his 12th goal of the season.  The game went into the second intermission tied at two.

Charlotte grabbed the lead again at the 6:37 mark of the third period, while on the power play.  Bowman netted his sixth goal of the season, with Bryan Rodney and Chris Terry grabbing the assists.  Once again the P-Bruins battled back and tied the game at three at the 8:40 mark.  Kirk MacDonald brought the puck into the zone and got it to Lane MacDermid.  He found Whitfield in front, who scored his second goal of the game and fourth goal of the season.  The Checkers pulled ahead once again at the 16:17 mark. Bowman tallied his second goal of the game and sixth goal of the season, while Oskar Osala and Michal Jordan had the assists.  The Checkers went on to the 4-3 victory.

Nolan Schaefer stopped 22 of 26 shots for the P-Bruins, while Justin Pogge made 23 saves for the Checkers. The P-Bruins were 1-for-4 on the power play and 6-for-7 on the penalty kill.

Providence wraps up its three game road trip Tuesday against the Checkers at 7:00 p.m.  The P-Bruins return to The Dunk Friday for Reds T-Shirt Night at 7:05 p.m. against the Bears.
