BARTKOWSKI RECALLED BY BOSTON
Defenseman Recorded 12 Points in 34 Games for Providence
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 19th season in the American Hockey League, tonight announced that the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins have recalled defenseman Matt Bartkowski on an emergency basis. Bartkowski will join Boston in Pittsburgh and be available for Monday's game against the Penguins. This is the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native's first career NHL recall.
Bartkowski, 22, has skated in 34 games for Providence this season, registering four goals and eight assists for 12 points to rank third among team defensemen in scoring. The blue-liner traveled with the parent Bruins on their preseason trip to Belfast and Prague, but did not see any NHL regular season action before being assigned to Providence on Oct. 6, 2010.
Prior to turning pro, Bartkowski enjoyed two years at Ohio State University, where he scored 38 points (11g, 27a) in 80 games. As a sophomore, he was an All-CCHA Honorable Mention, OSU Scholar Athlete and Academic All Big Ten choice before signing with the Bruins on Apr. 29, 2010.
Bartkowski was acquired by Boston on Mar. 3, 2010 in a trade with Florida along with Dennis Seidenberg for former P-Bruins Byron Bitz, Craig Weller and a 2010 second round draft pick. Barkowski was selected by the Panthers 190th overall in round seven of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
The P-Bruins' roster is now comprised of 24 players, including 15 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.
The P-Bruins return to action on Friday, hosting Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at 7:05 p.m. for T-Shirt Night. The t-shirts are free to the first 2,000 fans in attendance courtesy of Planet Fitness. On Saturday, Providence travels to Connecticut for a 7 p.m. tilt with the Whale. The P-Bruins wrap up the weekend next Sunday at The Dunk versus Worcester at 4:05 p.m. for Silly Band Night with silly band packages free to the first 1,000 kids age 12 and under.
