P-BRUINS DEFEAT SOUND TIGERS 2-1
Back at The Dunk Friday vs. Manchester
Bridgeport, CT - The Providence Bruins defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 2-1 Sunday afternoon at the Arena at Harbor Yard. The P-Bruins got their goals from Yury Alexandrov and Jeremy Reich. Providence is back in action at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday at 7:05 p.m. for Kid's Hat Night against the Manchester Monarchs.
The Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 3:56 mark of the first period. Alexandrov beat Mikko Koskinen with a one-timer slap shot from the left face-off dot to tally his fifth goal of the season. Zach Hamill and Jordan Smotherman recorded assists on the goal. Providence went 0-2 on the power play in the first period and killed off Bridgeport's only power play of the period. Bridgeport out-shot Providence 7-6 in the first twenty minutes of play.
In the second period, David Ling was called for tripping with 13:20 left in the period. While on the power play, Michael Haley tipped the puck passed Dalton's outreached glove to get his ninth of the season 8:31 into the second period. David Ullstrom and Robin Figren got the assists on the game-tying power play goal. Providence's best scoring chance of the second period came with just under five minutes remaining when Jamie Arniel rang the puck off the right side post on a breakaway opportunity.
The game remained tied 1-1 with Bridgeport out-shooting Providence 15-10 as the third period got underway. With 13:11 remaining in regulation, Reich capitalized on an odd-man rush to score his sixth goal of the season. Reich's go-ahead goal gave Providence a 2-1 lead. Hamill got his second assist of the night with Jordan Caron tallying the other assist. Providence had to kill a four minute penalty when Caron went to the box for high-sticking late in the third period, but held on for the 2-1 victory.
Matt Dalton stopped 21 of 22 shots for the P-Bruins to get his first career AHL win. Koskinen made 19 saves for the Sound Tigers. The P-Bruins were 0-for-4 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.
Providence is back in action at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday for Kid's Hat Night at 7:05 p.m. against the Monarchs. The P-Bruins then hit the road Saturday to take on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza at 7:05 p.m., before wrapping up the weekend at The Dunk Sunday for Thundersticks Night at 4:05 p.m. against the Binghamton Senators.
