P-BRUINS HOME FOR PAIR THIS WEEKEND
Providence Hosts Portland and Hartford at The Dunk
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins are back at the Dunkin' Donuts Center for two home games this weekend on Friday and Sunday. Friday, the P-Bruins face the Portland Pirates at 7:05 p.m. for T-Shirt Night and Sunday the P-Bruins take on the Hartford Wolf Pack at 4:05 p.m. for Jeremy Reich Poster Night. This past weekend, the P-Bruins played three straight games, two of which were home at The Dunk. The P-Bruins began the weekend facing the Worcester Sharks on Friday. The P-Bruins put on an offensive clinic scoring eight goals in the game. Providence received two goals each from rookies Mikko Lehtonen and Matt Marquardt along with single goals from Martins Karsums, Matt Lashoff, Vladimir Sobotka and Johnny Boychuk. On the other side of the ice, Tuukka Rask was able to stop 32 of 35 shots to secure the 8-3 victory for Providence.
On Saturday, the P-Bruins traveled to Portland to face the Pirates. The Bruins started the scoring with a goal from Karsums in the first period to give Providence the lead, before the Pirates went on to score five goals. The P-Bruins got a goal back with Adam McQuaid scoring his first goal of the year but it would not be enough as Portland went on to the 5-2 victory.
Sunday, the P-Bruins took on the Norfolk Admirals for the first time this season. The game was a back and forth contest with the winning goal coming late in the third period. The Bruins went 3-for-7 on the power-play with goals coming from Karsums, Boychuk and Brad Marchand. In addition, an even-strength goal was added by Sobotka, one of his three points on the night. In net, first-year goaltender Kevin Regan stopped 29 of 32 shots to record his third win of the year at 4-3.
Through fifteen games, Boychuk continues to lead the team in points with 18 (4g, 14a). Karsums ranks second on the team in scoring with 16 points (7g, 9a). Martin St. Pierre takes the third spot with 15 points (3g, 12a) and Lashoff is fourth with 13 points (3g, 10a). Sobotka rounds out the top five with 11 points (5g, 6a) in only eight games. In net for the P-Bruins, Rask is 6-5 with a 2.78 GAA and a .909 save percentage.
Ice Chips: The P-Bruins are second in the Atlantic Division with 19 points... Boychuk is tied for twelveth in the AHL in scoring with 18 points and is first among defensemen... Boychuck also leads all defensemen in shots with 50 and all P-Bruins in power play scoring with 13 points (3g, 10a)... The P-Bruins have the third best power play in the league converting 21.3% of the time, while the penalty kill unit is second in the league, killing 90.2% of the time.
