Albany, NY - The Providence Bruins defeated the Albany Devils 6-4 Sunday afternoon at the Times Union Center. The P-Bruins got a goal from Jamie Arniel, two goals from Joe Colborne and three goals from Jordan Knackstedt. The P-Bruins are back at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday for MetLife Auto & Home Ear Warmer Night at 7:05 p.m. against the Abbotsford Heat.
The Devils took a 1-0 lead at the 7:02 mark of the opening period. Nick Palmieri tallied his second goal of the season, while Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond and David McIntyre recorded the assists. Albany made it 2-0 at the 17:39 mark, while on the power play. Vladimir Zharkov netted his fourth goal of the season, with Nathan Perkovich and Tyler Eckford grabbing the assists. The Devils led 2-0 going into the first intermission.
The P-Bruins pulled within a goal only twenty-six seconds into the second period, while on the power play. Steven Kampfer had the puck at the point and worked it to Jeff Penner at the blue line. He found Colborne in the right faceoff circle, who scored his fourth goal of the season. Albany retook its two goal advantage at the 1:57 mark. Perkovich tallied his third goal of the season, while Leblond and Tim Sestito had the assists. The Devils made it 4-1 at the 3:30 mark, while on the power play. Adam Henrique netted his third goal of the season, with Matt Anderson and Zharkov getting the assists. Providence answered back with a goal at the 6:48 mark, while on the power play. Andrew Bodnarchuk had the puck at the left point and fed it to Kampfer along the right boards. He found Colborne down low, who scored his second goal of the game and fifth of the season. The P-Bruins pulled within a goal at the 8:55 mark. Zack Hamill held the puck along the boards and fed it to Knackstedt in front of the net, who tipped it in for his fifth goal of the season. Providence tied the game at four at the 17:59 mark, while on the power play. Kampfer had the puck at the point and passed it along the boards to Hamill. He once again fed Knackstedt in front of the net, who tallied his second goal of the game and sixth goal of the season. The game went into the second period tied at four.
Providence took its first lead of the game at the 4:46 mark of the third period. Hamill passed the puck to Knackstedt, who scored his third goal of the evening and seventh goal of the season. The P-Bruins finished off the scoring with a power play goal at the 11:08 mark. Knackstedt held the puck along the right boards and fed Arniel in the slot, who tallied his sixth goal of the season. The P-Bruins went onto the 6-4 victory.
Michael Hutchinson stopped 17 of 21 shots and Nolan Schaefer stopped all ten shots he faced for the P-Bruins, while Jeff Frazee made 21 saves for the Devils. The P-Bruins were 4-for-6 on the power play and 5-for-7 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins are back at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday for MetLife Auto & Home Ear Warmer Night at 7:05 p.m. against the Heat.
