Providence Host Two Family Games at The Dunk
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins are back at the Dunkin' Donuts Center for two home games this weekend on Friday and Sunday. Friday is a Family Game, where you can buy a ticket, hot dog and soda for one low price, versus the Worcester Sharks at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday is also a Family Game against the Norfolk Admirals at 4:05 p.m. For tickets to either game, visit providencebruins.com or call 401-273-5000. The P-Bruins have one road game this weekend, Saturday at the Portland Pirates at 7:00 p.m.
This past weekend, the P-Bruins played three straight games, two of which were home at The Dunk. The P-Bruins began the weekend facing the Chicago Wolves on Friday, falling 4-1.
On Saturday, the P-Bruins went on the road up to face the Albany River Rats. The game got off to a slow start with no scoring coming until halfway through the second period by Albany. Providence then fell into a 2-0 hole early in the third period before the offensive picked up. Jeremey Reich scored a short-handed goal with an assist by Wacey Rabbit to shrink the difference. Albany quickly answered with another goal of its own making the score 3-1. However, with five minutes left in the game, Brad Marchand scored a power-play goal to make it 3-2. But then after pulling the goalie, Kevin Regan, Martins Karsums scored with less than a minute left in play. For there it didn't take long as only 39 seconds into overtime Vladimir Sobotka scored his third goal of the year on the power-play to give the Bruins the win 4-3. The game also showcased a record breaking number of road shots for the P-Bruins with 59.
Sunday saw the P-Bruins take on the Philadelphia Phantoms for the first time this season. In the game the only offense came from the Phantoms side as they scored a goal in the second and third periods. Phantoms goalie Scott Munroe was able to block all 46 shots faced and helped defeat the P-Bruins 2-0.
Through 12 games, Johnny Boychuk continues to lead the team in points with 15 (2g, 13a). Karsums ranks second on the team in scoring with 11 points (4g, 7a). Martin St. Pierre takes the third spot with nine points and Mikko Lehtonen is fourth with eight points. Brad Marchand and Matt Lashoff round out the top five on the team in scoring with seven points each. In net for the P-Bruins, Tuukka Rask is 5-4 with a 2.48 GAA and a .915 save percentage.
Ice Chips: The P-Bruins are second in the Atlantic Division with 15 points... Boychuk is tied for seventh in the AHL in scoring with 15 points and is tied for first in defensemen... The P-Bruins are tied for fifth best power play in the league converting 20.3% of the time, while the penalty kill unit is tied for third in the league killing 89.7% of the time... Wacey Rabbit leads the AHL in shorthanded goals with two.
Brad Marchand and Mikko Lehtonen will be appearing at the Cardboard Promotions Card Show at the Holiday Inn on 31 Hampshire St. in Mansfield, MA on Tuesday, November 11. The players will be available for photos and autographs from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Jeff LoVecchio, Mark Bomersback and the P-Bruins mascot Samboni will appear at the Shaws on 575 Taunton Ave. in East Providence on Thursday, November 13 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. P-Bruins players will be available to sign autographs and take pictures with fans.
On Thursday, November 13, Derick Martin will be appearing at the AT&T store inside the Providence Place Mall from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The players will be available to sign autographs and take pictures with fans. The players will also be giving out tickets to future P-Bruins games.
