P-BRUINS FALL IN OVERTIME TO WOLF PACK 4-3
Back at The Dunk Friday vs. Portland Pirates
Hartford, CT - The Providence Bruins fell in overtime to the Hartford Wolf Pack 4-3 Sunday afternoon at the XL Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Yannick Riendeau, Jeff Penner and John Lammers. The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday at 7:05 p.m. for Visor Night against the Portland Pirates.
The Wolf Pack took a 1-0 lead at the 9:41 mark of the opening period, while on the power play. Dale Weise tallied his 23rd goal of the season, with Ilkka Heikkinen and Kris Newbury recording the assists. Hartford led 1-0 going into the first intermission.
Providence tied the game at one at the 7:44 mark of the second period. Penner sent the puck into the corner for Kirk MacDonald. He took a shot from the right face-off circle and the rebound landed on the stick of Riendeau, who scored his first goal of the season. The P-Bruins took their first lead of the game at the 10:27 mark, while on the power play. The Wolf Pack tried clearing the puck out of their zone, but it landed right on the stick of Penner. He blasted the puck into the net from the top of the right face-off circle for his seventh goal of the season. Providence led 2-1 going into the second intermission.
Hartford tied the game at two at the 1:16 mark of the third period. Dane Byers netted his 19th goal of the season, while Newbury and Weise had the assists. The Wolf Pack retook the lead at the 13:05 mark. P.A. Parenteau tallied his 19th goal of the season, while Heikkinen and Paul Crowder grabbed the assists. Providence battled back to tie the game at three at the 13:55 mark and force overtime. Zach Hamill won the faceoff and the puck went to Jordan Knackstedt, who got a shot off from the slot. The rebound went to Lammers, who scored his eighth goal of the season. The game went into overtime tied at three.
The Wolf Pack won the game at the 4:05 mark of overtime. Parenteau netted his 20th goal of the season and second of the game, while Corey Locke got the lone assist. Hartford went onto the 4-3 overtime victory.
Kevin Regan stopped 30 of 34 shots for the P-Bruins, while Chad Johnson made 27 saves for the Wolf Pack. The P-Bruins were 1-for-3 on the power play and 1-for-2 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday at 7:05 p.m. for Visor Night against the Pirates.
