P-BRUINS DEFEAT DEVILS 4-2
Back at The Dunk Friday, March 26 vs. Portland Pirates
Lowell, MA - The Providence Bruins defeated the Lowell Devils 4-2 Friday evening at the Tsongas Arena. The P-Bruins got their goals from Jordan Knackstedt, Mikko Lehtonen and two goals from Andrew Bodnrachuk. The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday, March 26 at 7:05 p.m. for Visor Night against the Portland Pirates.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 3:55 mark of the opening period, while on the power play. Trent Whitfield held the puck in the corner and sent it to the right point for Andy Wozniewski. He shot the puck towards the net and the rebound went to Bodnarchuk. He was waiting in the left face-off circle and scored his fourth goal of the season. Providence made it 2-0 at the 8:43 mark. Zach Hamill carried the puck into the zone down the right wing. He passed it to Cody Wild in the slot, who tipped it backdoor to Knackstedt, who tallied his 13th goal of the season. The P-Bruins led 2-0 going into the first intermission.
The Devils cut the P-Bruins lead in half at the 9:50 mark of the second period. Tim Sestito netted his 17th goal of the season, while Kory Nagy and Rob Davison recorded the assists. Providence made it 3-1 at the 13:07 mark. Whitfield sent the puck out of the zone to Lehtonen, giving him a breakaway. Lehtonen lifted the puck into the net top shelf for his 23rd goal of the season. The P-Bruins led 3-1 going into the second intermission.
Providence took a 4-1 lead at the 2:48 mark of the third period. Wild worked the puck into the neutral zone for Yannick Riendeau. He skated it into the attack zone and dropped it off to Bodnarchuk at the left point. Bodnarchuk sent the puck into the net for his second goal of the game and fifth of the season. Lowell pulled within two at the 11:43 mark. Michael Swift netted his 15th goal of the season, while Louis Robitaille and Matt Taormina picked up the assists. Providence went onto the 4-2 victory.
Dany Sabourin stopped 46 of 48 shots for the P-Bruins, while Jeff Frazee made 18 saves for the Devils. The P-Bruins were 1-for-2 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
Saturday Providence faces the Worcester Sharks at 7:05 p.m. at the DCU Center, before wrapping up the week Sunday back at the XL Center at 3:00 p.m. against the Hartford Wolf Pack.
