Boston Deals Matt Marquardt to Edmonton for Cody Wild

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 18th year in the American Hockey League, announced that the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins have acquired defenseman Cody Wild from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for forward Matt Marquardt. With the move, the P-Bruins have 26 players on their roster, including 15 forwards, nine defensemen and two goaltenders.

Wild, 22, is a North Providence native who has split time in his career between the Springfield Falcons and the ECHL's Stockton Thunder. The blue-liner has appeared in 37 games for the Falcons this season, registering 14 assists and 24 penalty minutes, in addition to one assist in four contests for the Thunder. The third-year pro has suited up for 119 career games, 109 at the AHL level, with six goals and 33 assists for 39 points, along with 86 PIM. Prior to turning pro, Wild enjoyed three seasons with his hometown Providence College Friars from 2005-08, where he amassed 57 points (16g, 41a) and 80 PIM in 100 games before entering the professional ranks late in the 2007-08 campaign. He was selected by Edmonton 140th overall in round five of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Marquardt, 22, has split this season between Providence and the ECHL's Reading Royals. The second-year pro tallied 10 points, including one goal and nine assists, in 42 games for the P-Bruins to go along with three points (g, 2a) in nine contests for the Royals. In his P-Bruins career, Marquardt appeared in 113 regular season games and nine postseason contests, totaling 11 goals and 23 assists. The North Bay, Ontario, native was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets 194th overall in round seven of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft before later being traded to Boston for defenseman Jonathan Sigalet on May 27, 2008.

Providence begins a five-game week with back-to-back outings in British Columbia against the Abbotsford Heat tonight and Wednesday with both games scheduled for 10:30 p.m. on the east coast. The club returns home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center host the Manchester Monarchs at 7:05 p.m. on Friday for Sport Bottle Night. Sport bottles are free to the first 2,000 fans.
