P-BRUINS DEFEAT SENATORS 6-4
Back at The Dunk Friday vs. Manchester Monarchs
Binghamton, NY - The Providence Bruins defeated the Binghamton Senators 6-4 Friday evening at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. The P-Bruins got their goals from Mikko Lehtonen, Trent Whitfield, Brad Marchand and three goals from John Lammers. The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday at 7:05 p.m. for Sport Bottle Night against the Manchester Monarchs.
The Senators took a 1- 0 advantage at the 3:18 mark of the opening period, while on the power play. Ryan Keller tallied his 25th goal of the season, with Josh Hennessy and Martin St. Pierre recording the assists. Binghamton made it 2-0 at the 19:13 mark. Hennessy netted his 20th goal of the season, while St. Pierre and Tomas Kudelka picked up the assists. The Senators led 2-0 going into the first intermission.
The P-Bruins pulled within a goal at the 7:26 mark of the second period. Jeff Penner fed Lehtonen the puck giving him a breakaway. Lehtonen scored from the right face-off circle, his 21st goal of the season. Providence tied the game at two at the 8:23 mark. Hamill sent the puck to the point for Jared Ross, who put a shot on net. The rebound came to Lammers, who tallied his fourth goal of the season. The P-Bruins took their first lead of the game at the 13:34 mark. Hamill fed the puck to Lammers, who tallied his second goal of the game and fifth of the season. Binghamton tied the game at three at the 17:46 mark. Jonathan Cheechoo netted his second goal of the season, while Hennessy and Denis Hamel had the assists. The game went into the second intermission tied at three.
Providence retook the lead at the 7:41 mark of the third period. Hamill passed the puck back to Andy Wozniewski, who took a shot from the blue line. Lammers picked up the puck in the slot off the rebound and scored his third goal of the game and sixth of the season. The P-Bruins took a two goal advantage at the 11:49 mark. Marchand had the puck behind the net a left it for Jordan Knackstedt along the boards. He found Whitfield in the slot, who tallied his 15th goal of the season. Binghamton pulled within a goal at the 13:25 mark, while on the power play. Geoff Kinrade netted his third goal of the season, with St. Pierre and Keller getting the assists. Providence finished the scoring with an empty net goal at the 19:55 mark. Marchand tallied his 13th goal of the season, while Hamill and Knackstedt had the assists. The P-Bruins went onto the 6-4 victory.
Dany Sabourin stopped 36 of 40 shots for the P-Bruins, while Mike Brodeur made 39 saves for the Senators. The P-Bruins were 0-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill.
Saturday the P-Bruins take on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at 7:05 p.m. at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Providence returns home to The Dunk Friday at 7:05 p.m. for Sport Bottle Night against the Monarchs.
