P-BRUINS SHUTOUT FALCONS 6-0

Back at The Dunk Friday vs. Portland Pirates

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins shutout the Springfield Falcons 6-0 Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.  The P-Bruins got their goals from Kirk MacDonald, Zach Hamill, Jamie Arniel, Brad Marchand and two goals from Trent WhitfieldDany Sabourin recorded his third shutout of the season making 28 saves.  The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday at 7:05 p.m. for RI Lottery Hat Night against the Portland Pirates.

The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 1:48 mark of the opening period.  Marchand carried the puck into the zone and passed it to Whitfield.  He found MacDonald in the slot, who tallied his tenth goal of the season.  Providence made it 2-0 at the 4:41 mark.  Arniel stole the puck in the neutral zone and carried it in along the left boards.  From there he passed it in front of the net to Hamill, who netted his ninth goal of the season.  The P-Bruins grabbed a 3-0 lead at the 8:56 mark.  Jordan Ross took a shot from halfway up the right boards and Hamill tipped it in front of the net to Arniel, who scored his tenth goal of the season.  Providence went into the first intermission leading 4-0 after adding a power play goal at the 14:29 mark.  Mikko Lehtonen passed the puck down the boards to Whitfield.  He found Marchand in front of the net and Marchand blasted the puck into the goal for his tenth goal of the season.

The P-Bruins continued the scoring in the second period at the 8:15 mark, while on the power play.  Lehtonen skated the puck into the zone and passed it into the high slot for Marchand.  He quickly moved it to Whitfield in the right face-off circle, who tallied his tenth goal of the season.  Providence finished off the scoring at the 15:01 mark.  John Lammers blocked a Falcons pass and the puck landed on the stick of Whitfield, giving him a breakaway.  He netted his second goal of the game and 11th of the season.

After a scoreless third period, the P-Bruins went onto the 6-0 victory.

Andrew Penner made 25 saves for the Falcons.  The P-Bruins were 2-for-6 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.

The P-Bruins are back in action Friday at The Dunk for Rhode Island Lottery Hat Night at 7:05 p.m. against the Pirates.  The P-Bruins head to the DCU Center on Saturday to take on the Worcester Sharks at 7:05 p.m., before wrapping up the weekend at The Dunk Sunday at 2:05 p.m. for Jumbocard Night against the Sharks.  Information on P-Bruins tickets for the 2009-10 season can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at http://www.providencebruins.com/
