Back at The Dunk Sunday vs. Springfield Falcons

Springfield, MA - The Providence Bruins defeated the Springfield Falcons 8-2 Saturday evening at the MassMutual Center.  The P-Bruins got their goals from Jeff Penner, Andy Wozniewski, Brad Marchand, Jamie Arniel and two goal each from Mikko Lehtonen and Jordan Knackstedt.  The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday at 4:05 p.m. for Kid's Hat Night against the Falcons.

The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 4:58 mark of the opening period, while on the power play.  Penner took a shot from the left face-off circle and the puck went into the net off a Falcons defenseman.  It was Penner's fourth goal of the season.  Providence made it 2-0 at the 12:47 mark, while on the power play.  Trent Whitfield held the puck and sent it around the boards behind the net to Marchand.  He fed it to Wozniewski at the blue line, who skated into the high slot and shot the puck into the net for his eighth goal of the season.  The P-Bruins led 2-0 going into the first intermission.

The Falcons cut the lead in half at the 7:31 mark of the second period, while on the power play.  Colton Fretter scored his 19th goal of the season, with Cody Wild and Viacheslav Trukhno getting the assists.  Providence made it 3-1 at the 11:40 mark, while on the power play.  Whitfield held the puck along the right board and passed it cross the ice to Alain Goulet.  He took a shot from the left face-off circle and the rebound went right to Marchand, who tallied his ninth goal of the season.  The P-Bruins took a 4-1 advantage at the 13:09 mark.  Levi Nelson put a shot on net and the rebound landed on the stick of Knackstedt, who tipped the puck into the net for his third goal of the season.  Providence was then awarded a penalty shot at the 14:54 mark and Arniel blasted the puck into the back of the net for his ninth goal of the season to give Providence a 5-1 lead.  The P-Bruins finished off the scoring the second period with a power play goal at the 18:34 mark.  Marchand held the puck in the corner and worked the point to the right point for Penner.  He found Lehtonen in the left face-off circle, where Lehtonen scored his 13th goal of the season.  Providence led 6-1 going into the second into the second intermission.

Springfield made the score 6-2 at the 16:09 mark of the third period.  Fretter netted his second goal of the night and 20th goal of the season, while Trukhno and J.F. David grabbed the assists.  The P-Bruins took a 7-2 lead at the 18:47 mark, with their fifth power play goal of the evening.  Wozniewski fed the puck to Lehtonen, who scored his second goal of the game and 14th goal of the season.  Providence wrapped up the scoring at the 19:12 mark.  Goulet took a shot from the right point and the puck was tipped into the net by Knackstedt for his second goal of the game and fourth goal of the season.  The P-Bruins went on to the 8-2 victory.

Kevin Regan stopped 22 of 24 shots for the P-Bruins, while J.P. Levasseur made 21 saves and Andrew Penner made 11 saves for the Falcons.  The P-Bruins were 5-for-6 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.
