Providence Hosts Albany for Only Rhode Island Meeting this Year

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins (20-20-3-0, 43 PTS, 7th Atlantic) host the Albany River Rats (22-16-2-2, 48 PTS, 2nd East) this afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center for the teams' second of two regular season meetings in 2009-10. On the year, the P-Bruins are 0-1-0-0 against the River Rats, a 3-1 defeat in Albany on December 12.

The P-Bruins enter today's contest riding a three-game point-streak after a win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and a pair of overtime defeats to the Hartford Wolf Pack. The Rats, meanwhile, rallied to top the Tigers 4-3 in overtime Saturday night, giving them points in four of five games at 3-1-1-0. Not unlike Providence, which has been playing without Trent Whitfield, Brad Marchand and Adam McQuaid, Albany is short several key players, including Zach Boychuk, Pat Dwyer, Jiri Tlusty and Drayson Bowman, all on recall to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Providence is led offensively by PlanetUSA All-Star Mikko Lehtonen's 32 points, including 12 goals and 20 assists. Fellow PlanetUSA All-Star Andy Wozniewski, recently returned on loan by the Boston Bruins, also has 20 helpers to share the team-lead. In net, Dany Sabourin is 17-14-0 with one shutout and a 2.52 goals-against-average. On the other side, Albany is paced by Jerome Samson's 32 points, along with team-bests in goals (14) and assists (18). Between the pipes, Justin Peters is 14-10-2 with one blanking and a 2.46 GAA.

On special teams, Providence sits 18th (16.0%) in the AHL on the power play and 20th (81.3%) on the penalty kill. Albany is 28th (12.4%) with the man-advantage and 14th (83.3%) when short-handed.

Providence returns to action next weekend with two games, beginning Friday at 7:05 p.m. against the Lowell Devils for Dunkin' Donuts Mug Night. Mugs are free to the first 3,000 fans in attendance. The P-Bruins then host the Springfield Falcons on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. for Kids T-Shirt Night with shirts free to the first 1,000 kids 12 and under.
