Providence Hosts Bridgeport to Kick Off 2010 Schedule

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins (17-17-1-0, 33 PTS, 7th Atlantic) host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (19-14-1-2, 41 PTS, 4th Atlantic) this evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center for the teams' fourth of six regular season meetings in 2009-10. On the year, the P-Bruins are 2-1-0-0 against the Sound Tigers, including 1-1-0-0 in Rhode Island.

Providence kicks off the 2010 portion of its schedule after a 6-6-0-0 December. The P-Bruins began the month with four straight wins before dropping six of eight. The club's last two wins have each been 3-2 overtime decisions over the Springfield Falcons in Massachusetts, including a victory on Tuesday. Bridgeport, meanwhile, has won two games in a row and the Sound Tigers have points in nine of their last 11 contests at 7-2-1-1. Most recently, Bridgeport edged its in-state rival, the Hartford Wolf Pack, 3-2 in a shootout on December 26.

The P-Bruins are led offensively by PlanetUSA All-Stars Mikko Lehtonen and Andy Wozniewski. Lehtonen paces his team with 11 goals and 29 points, while he and Wozniewski share the team-lead with 18 assists apiece. In net, Dany Sabourin is 14-11-0 with one shutout, a 2.56 goals-against-average and a .913 save percentage. On the other side, the Sound Tigers are led by former P-Bruins forward Sean Bentivoglio and his 22 points. He and Greg Mauldin each have 11 goals, while three players show 12 assists each - Jesse Joensuu, Greg Moore and Mark Wotton. Between the pipes, Scott Munroe has seen the bulk of the action, showing a 10-7-1 mark with two blankings, a 2.33 GAA and .927 save percentage.

Head-to-head, P-Bruins center Zach Hamill leads all scorers in the series with four points, including two goals and two assists. Mauldin has two goals for the Sound Tigers. In the crease, Sabourin is 2-1 against Bridgeport with a 1.96 GAA to Munroe's 1-1-0 mark and 2.53 GAA.

On special teams, Providence sits 13th (18.0%) in the AHL on the power play and 25th (80.0%) on the penalty kill, while Bridgeport is 25th (13.1%) on the man-advantage and 13th (84.0%) when short-handed.
