NELSON ASSIGNED TO PROVIDENCE
Third-Year P-Bruins Center Ready to Make Season Debut
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 18th year in the American Hockey League, announced that the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins have assigned forward Levi Nelson to the P-Bruins. With the move, Providence has 25 players on their active roster, including 15 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders.
Nelson, 21, is in his third professional season and second full year with the P-Bruins. He will be eligible to make his 2009-10 season debut on Friday night against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers after missing Providence's first 29 games of the year due to injury.
As a P-Bruins rookie in 2008-09, the center scored seven points (2g, 5a) in 59 regular season games, plus two points (g, a) in five postseason contests. Nelson also appeared in eight games for the ECHL's Reading Royals, registering three points (2g, a). Prior to last season, he enjoyed pro experience with the P-Bruins late in the 2006-07 campaign, suiting up for one regular season contest and four playoff games, scoring one goal. In his pro career, Nelson has scored 10 points (4g, 6a) in 68 regular season games, plus three points (2g, a) in nine playoff outings.
Nelson enjoyed parts of four junior seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Swift Current Broncos from 2004-08, scoring 174 points (76g, 98a) in 220 games between the regular season and playoffs. The Calgary, Alberta, native was drafted by Boston 158th overall in the sixth round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
Providence is back in action with two home games this weekend. On Friday, the P-Bruins host Bridgeport at 7:05 p.m. for Mikko Lehtonen Poster Night. The game on Saturday is at the Springfield Falcons at 7 p.m. Then, the P-Bruins return home on Sunday to host the Lowell Devils at 4:05 p.m. for a Family Game.
