Forward Returns to ECHL's Idaho

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 18th year in the American Hockey League, announced that they have released forward Mark Derlago from his Professional Tryout Agreement. With the move, the P-Bruins have 22 players on their roster, including 13 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.

Derlago, 23, signed a PTO with Providence on November 4 after beginning the season with the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads. As a member of the P-Bruins, the left wing scored one goal in five games with his lone marker coming on November 8 against the Hershey Bears. For Idaho, Derlago recorded 10 points (6g, 4a) in just eight games, including at least one point in each contest. His point-total ranked him second on the Steelheads in scoring and first in goals at the time of his recall.

The third-year pro split each of the last two seasons between the AHL's Manitoba Moose and the ECHL's Bakersfield Condors. Last season, Derlago amassed 77 points (32g, 45a) in only 49 regular season games for Bakersfield, in addition to nine points (4g, 5a) in 21 contests for Manitoba. He added nine points (6g, 3a) in seven postseason games for the Condors.

As a rookie in 2007-08, Derlago led all ECHL first-year players with 39 goals, including three hat tricks, and he ranked fourth on Bakersfield with 57 points (39g, 18a). The Brandon, Manitoba, native set Condors rookie records for both goals and points in the process. Prior to turning pro, Derlago spent three seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Brandon Wheat Kings. The undrafted forward notched 162 points (82g, 80a) in 209 regular season junior games, plus 13 points (8g, 5a) in 28 postseason contests.

Derlago's uncle, Bill Derlago, played parts of nine seasons in the National Hockey League as a member of the Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Winnipeg Jets and Quebec Nordiques. As a Bruin in 1985-86, Derlago appeared in 39 games, scoring 21 points (5g, 16a).
