P-BRUINS DEFEAT FALCONS 6-3
At Worcester Sharks on Saturday
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Springfield Falcons 6-3 Friday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Martin St. Pierre, Jeff Penner, Jordan Knackstedt, Martins Karsums, Matt Lashoff and Wacey Rabbit. The P-Bruins are back in action on Saturday at the DCU Center versus the Worcester Sharks at 7:05 p.m.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 42 second mark of the opening period. St. Pierre tallied his second goal of the season with Johnny Boychuk and Karsums recording the assists. Springfield answered back at the 4:28 mark tying the game at one. Jake Taylor netted his first goal of the season with Rob Schremp and Mike Gabinet picking up the assists. The P-Bruins retook the lead at the 8:53 mark of the period, while on the power play. Andrew Bodnarchuk held the puck at the blue line and sent it halfway up the right boards to Brad Marchand. He sent the puck to the near boards for Penner who spun around before skating into the left face off circle and shot the puck past Falcons goaltender Devan Dubnyk for his first goal of the season. Providence took a two goal advantage at the 12:04 mark. Mikko Lehtonen held the puck halfway up the right boards before sending it to Penner at the blue line. He took a shot and the puck went off the stick of Knackstedt and into the net. The P-Bruins extended their lead at the 17:40 mark, while on the power play. Boychuk worked the puck from the right point to Lehtonen along the left boards. He dropped the puck off to Karsums who scored his second goal of the season from the left face off circle. Providence went into the first intermission leading 4-1.
In the second period, the Falcons cut the P-Bruins lead to 4-2, while on the power play. At the 16:44 mark, Liam Reddox tallied his first goal of the season, with Colin McDonald and Ryan Potulny getting the assists. The P-Bruins went into the second intermission with a 4-2 lead.
In the third period, the Falcons pulled within a goal at the 1:21 mark, while on the power play. Derek Bekar netted his first goal of the season with Tyler Spurgeon and Vlacheslav Trukhno getting the assists. The P-Bruins came back with two unanswered goals to finish the scoring. At the 9:26 mark, while on the power play Boychuk worked the puck from the right point to St. Pierre halfway up the right boards. He sent it to Lashoff along the left boards who skated in and scored his first goal of the season. The P-Bruins finished off the scoring at the 11:55 mark with a shorthanded goal. Karsums stole the puck in the P-Bruins end and worked it up ahead to Rabbit, giving him a breakaway. Rabbit score getting the puck into the right side of the net for his first goal of the season. The P-Bruins held on for the 6-3 victory.
Kevin Regan stopped 24 of 27 shots for the P-Bruins, while Dubnyk made ten saves and Glenn Fisher made 16 saves for the Falcons. The P-Bruins were 3-for-6 on the power play and 5-for-7 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins begin a six game road trip tomorrow against the Sharks at the DCU Center at 7:05 p.m. The road trip continue Sunday against the Portland Pirates at the Cumberland County Civic Center at 4:05 p.m. The P-Bruins return home to The Dunk Friday, November 7 versus the Chicago Wolves for Hat Night at 7:05 p.m. Information on P-Bruins tickets can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at providencebruins.com.
