PROVIDENCE PREPARES FOR FIRST FULL WEEKEND

Providence Hosts Hartford Tonight and Sunday, at Portland Saturday

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins (1-0-0-0, 2 PTS, T-1st Atlantic) host the Hartford Wolf Pack (0-1-0-0, 0 PTS, T-7th Atlantic) this evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in the teams' first of 10 regular season meetings in 2009-10. The P-Bruins finished 4-3-0-1 against the Wolf Pack last season.

Both teams enjoyed a light opening weekend schedule with just one game apiece last week. Providence kicked off its year with a 6-2 triumph over the Springfield Falcons on Sunday, while Hartford opened its schedule the previous evening on the road, a 5-3 loss to the Binghamton Senators on Saturday. The P-Bruins received offensive contributions from 11 different players, including two goals from each Jeff LoVecchio and Brad Marchand and a goal and two assists apiece from newcomers Trent Whitfield and Andy Wozniewski. LoVecchio's goals were extra special as the winger was playing his first pro game since the end of the 2007-08 season. The rookie suffered a concussion in July 2008, forcing him to miss the entire 2008-09 campaign. Marchand, meanwhile, picked up right where he left off last season after finishing second among all first-year AHL players in scoring with 59 points (18g, 41a). In net, Dany Sabourin was solid in his Providence debut, stopping 21 shots.

Hartford's road loss marked the first time the Wolf Pack opened a season on the road since 2002-03, and the game was also Hartford's first trip to Binghamton since November 11, 2005. Corey Locke scored two of the Wolf Pack's three goals in his debut after 25 goals and 79 points a year ago for the Houston Aeros. Bobby Sanguinetti, who set a Wolf Pack rookie record for assists by a defensemen last season with 36, posted a pair of helpers in the defeat. Returning to Hartford's line-up from last year, among others, are potent scorer P.A. Parenteau (29g, 49a in 2008-09) and Brodie Dupont (18g, 24a). Gone, however, are Artem Anisimov (37g, 44a), now with with the New York Rangers, and Greg Moore (23g, 16a), a member of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Back between the pipes is Matt Zaba, a third-year pro and 25-game winner in 2008-09.

The P-Bruins and Wolf Pack match-up again on Sunday at The Dunk at 4:05 p.m. for a Family Game, where fans receive one ticket, hot dog and soda for one low price. But, first, Providence travels to Maine tomorrow night to take on the Portland Pirates at 7 p.m. To purchase 2009-10 season tickets, Flex Tix or individual game tickets, please call the P-Bruins ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or log on to providencebruins.com.
