Home Again at The Dunk Friday vs. Springfield

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Springfield Falcons 4-3 in overtime Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.  The P-Bruins got their goals from Martin St. Pierre, Martins Karsums, Mikko Lehtonen and Vladimir Sobotka.  The P-Bruins are back at home Friday at the Dunkin' Donuts Center for t-shirt night versus the Springfield Falcons at 7:05 p.m.  

The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 4:49 mark of the opening period, while on the power play.  Matt Hunwick had the puck at the left point and passed it to Johnny Boychuk at the right point.  He sent the puck halfway down the boards to St. Pierre who shot the puck past Falcons net minder Devan Dubnyk and into the net for his first goal of the season.  The P-Bruins went into the first intermission leading 1-0.

In the second period, the P-Bruins took a two goal lead at the 7:39 mark.  St. Pierre held the puck along the right boards and passed it behind the net to Matt Lashoff.  He found Karsums in the left face off circle.  Karsums worked towards the center of the ice, before shooting the puck into the net from between the circles.  Springfield pulled within a goal at the 12:34 mark, while on their first power play of the game.  Theo Peckham tallied his first goal of the season with Taylor Chorney and Vlacheslav Trukhno recording the assists.  Providence retook a two goal lead at the 14:01 mark.  Boychuk had the puck at the centerline in front of the penalty boxes and passed it to Sobotka in front of the P-Bruins bench.  As he was spun around he passed the puck off to Lehtonen giving him a breakaway, where he netted his first goal of the season.  The P-Bruins took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission. 

In the third period the Falcons bounced back to tie the game at three.  Only a minute into the period, Gilbert Brule scored with Trukhno picking up the lone assist.  At the 12:04 mark, Peckham tallied his second goal of the game, while Tyler Spurgeon had the lone assist.

In overtime, Lehtonen skated the puck down the left wing and into the left face off circle.  Sobotka was charging towards the net when Lehtonen passed him the puck.  Sobotka used his skate to settle down the bouncing puck than shot it into the left side of the net, giving the P-Bruins the 4-3 victory.

Tuukka Rask stopped 25 of 28 shots for the P-Bruins, while Dubnyk made 28 saves for the Falcons.  The P-Bruins were 2-for-7 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.
