Defenseman Alain Goulet Signs ATO with Providence

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in the playoffs for the 15th time in 17 American Hockey League seasons, announced that defenseman Alain Goulet has been signed to an Amateur Tryout Agreement. With the move, the P-Bruins have 30 players on their roster, including 15 forwards, 11 defensemen and four goaltenders.

Goulet, 20, joins Providence after splitting the season between the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Gatineau Olympiques and the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks.

The rookie defenseman began the year with the Mavericks as a sophomore after a 14 point (6g, 8a) freshman season in 2007-08. Goulet appeared in 17 games for Nebraska-Omaha this year, recording five points (2g, 3a) and 21 penalty minutes. He joined Gatineau in late-December and contributed 35 points (16, 19a) and 10 PIM in 32 regular season games before adding 10 points, all assists, in 10 playoff contests. Goulet's season came to an end on April 10 as Gatineau fell in the second round of the QMJHL Playoffs, defeated in five games by the Shawinigan Cataractes.

Goulet registered 11 multiple-point games for Gatineau and five point-streaks of at least three games, including a six-game scoring run during the postseason. The native of Kapuskasing, Ontario, was selected by the Boston Bruins 159th overall in round six of the 2007 National Hockey League Draft.
