P-BRUINS FALL TO PIRATES 6-5

P-Bruins Finish Regular Season In Worcester Saturday

Portland, ME - The Providence Bruins fell to the Portland Pirates 6-5 Friday evening at the Cumberland County Civic Center.  The P-Bruins got their goals from Wacey Rabbit, Brad Marchand, Martin St. Pierre and two goals from Jeremy Reich.  The P-Bruins finish the regular season Saturday in Worcester, before beginning the Calder Cup Playoffs at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Wednesday, April 15 at 7:05 p.m.

The Pirates took a 1-0 lead at the 4:19 mark of the opening period.  Mathieu Darche tallied his 30th goal of the season, while Tim Kennedy and Paul Baier recorded the assists.  Providence tied the game at one at the 6:06 mark.  Jeff Penner sent the puck out of the P-Bruins zone and into the neutral zone for Marchand.  He skated into the Pirates end before dropping off the puck to Reich, who netted his 20th goal of the season.  Portland retook the lead at the 12:41 mark, while on the power play.  Nathan Gerbe scored his 28th goal of the season, with Mike Kostka and Kennedy getting the assists.  Providence once again battled back to tie the game at two at the 17:14 mark.  Jordan Knackstedt put a shot on net and Rabbit picked up the rebound and put the puck in the back of the net for his 16th goal of the season.  The P-Bruins took their first lead of the game at the 19:40 mark.  St. Pierre had the puck in the neutral zone and passed it ahead for Marchand.  He found Reich in the slot, who tallied his second goal of the game and 21st goal of the season.  Providence went into the first intermission leading 3-2.

Providence went ahead 4-2 at the 5:49 mark of the second period.  Knackstedt sent the puck in front of the net for Dan Ryder who took a shot.  The rebound went to Marchand, who netted his 18th goal of the season.  Portland pulled within a goal at the 11:48 mark, while on the power play.  Mark Mancari grabbed his 29th goal of the season with Marek Zagrapan getting the lone assist.  The Pirates tied the game at four at the 13:07 mark.  Colin Murphy scored his 13th goal of the season, while Marc-Andre Gragnani and Zagrapan picked up the assists.  Portland retook the lead at the 19:48 mark.  Colton Fretter tallied his 23rd goal of the season, while Felix Schutz and Tyler Bouck recorded the assists.  Portland took a 5-4 lead into the second intermission.

Portland took a two goal advantage at the 5:58 mark of the third period.  Darche netted his second goal of the game, while Kostka and Schutz grabbed the assists.  Providence pulled within a goal at the 7:39 mark, while on the power play.  Andrew Bodnarchuk sent the puck around the boards to Ryder behind the net.  He found St. Pierre along the far boards, who scored his 15th goal of the season.  The P-Bruins couldn't get another goal as Providence fell 6-5.

Kevin Nastiuk stopped 30 of 36 shots for the P-Bruins, while Jhonas Enroth made 17 saves for the Pirates.  The P-Bruins were 1-for-2 on the power play and 1-for-4 on the penalty kill.
