Rookie Returns to Providence from ECHL's Reading

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 17th season in the American Hockey League, announced that the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins have reassigned center Levi Nelson to Providence from the ECHL's Reading Royals. With the move, the P-Bruins have 25 players on their roster, including 15 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders.

Nelson, 20, was reassigned to Reading on February 23 after appearing in 51 games for Providence while scoring two goals and tallying three assists. During his ECHL stint, the first-year pro suited up for eight games, recording two goals and assist, along with 28 penalty minutes. The center's first professional regular season point came with an assist on October 19, 2008 against the Portland Pirates. He later added his first regular season goal versus the Houston Aeros on October 31, 2008, earning third star honors.

Prior to this season, Nelson spent parts of the last two years on the P-Bruins' roster as an amateur addition. He made his professional debut late in the 2006-07 campaign, suiting up for one regular season contest and four playoff games, scoring one goal.

Drafted by Boston 158th overall in the sixth round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Nelson is coming off of his best of three full junior seasons in the Western Hockey League. The pivot recorded career-highs with 25 goals, 36 assists, 61 points and 152 penalty minutes in 67 games for the Swift Current Broncos before adding 15 points, including seven goals, in 12 postseason contests. Overall, the Calgary, Alberta, native registered 152 points (65g, 87a) in 198 career WHL games over parts of four seasons with the Broncos, where he finished as Swift Current's Rookie of the Year in his first full year and led the team in scoring in his second.
