Eight Game Road Trip Continues Friday in Norfolk

Manchester, NH - The Providence Bruins fell to the Manchester Monarchs 3-2 in a shootout Tuesday evening at the Verizon Wireless Arena.  The P-Bruins got their goals in regulation from Johnny Boychuk and Vladimir Sobotka.  In the shootout, Wacey Rabbit tallied the lone P-Bruins goal.  The first place P-Bruins continue their eight game road trip Friday against the Norfolk Admirals at the Scope at 7:15 p.m.

After a scoreless opening period, Providence took a 1-0 lead at the 13:42 mark of the second period.  Brad Marchand held the puck halfway along the right boards before working it to Boychuk who was waiting at the blue line.  Boychuk blasted the puck from the blue line and into the net for his 15th goal of the season.  Manchester tied the game at one at the 18:33 mark.  Trevor Lewis netted his 14th goal of the season, while Richard Clune and Drew Bagnall recorded the assists.  The Monarchs took their first lead of the game at the 19:49 mark.  Oscar Moller tallied his second goal of the season, while Marty Murray and Matt Moulson grabbed the assists.  Manchester went into the second intermission leading 2-1.

Late in the third period, with the goaltender pulled and the extra attacker on the ice, the P-Bruins tied the game at two.  At the 18:54 mark, Matt Hunwick held the puck at the point and worked it down the boards for Marchand.  From behind the net, Marchand tossed the puck in front of the crease and it was batted into the goal by Sobotka, his 13th of the season.  The game went into overtime tied at two.

After a scoreless overtime the game went into a shootout.  The first three shooters for the Monarchs, Moller, Vladimir Dravecky and Scott Parse each scored, while Rabbit scored the only goal for Providence.  Manchester went on to the 3-2 shootout victory.

Tuukka Rask stopped 28 of 30 shots in regulation and 1 of 4 shots in the shootout for the P-Bruins, while Daniel Taylor made 45 saves in regulation and 3 saves in the shootout for the Monarchs.  The P-Bruins were 0-for-1 on the power play and 1-for-1 on the penalty kill.
