P-Bruins Roster Trimmed to 24 Players

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, the 2007-08 regular season champions of the American Hockey League, announced that four players have been released from their training camp roster, including forwards Dan Eves and Joe Rooney and defensemen Thomas Harrison and Derick Martin. Providence now has 24 players in its camp, including 13 forwards, eight defensemen and three goaltenders.

Eves, 22, appeared in two preseason games for Providence, going scoreless with two penalty minutes and a plus-one rating. The undrafted forward is coming off of a four-year collegiate career with the Lake Superior State Lakers, tallying 63 points on 29 goals and 34 assists in 145 games, to go along with 229 PIM. A native of Lake Orion, Michigan, Eves had his best season as a senior assistant captain, scoring 26 points (11g, 15a) in 37 games.

Rooney, 23, finished preseason play with one goal in two games and a plus-one rating. The undrafted native of Canton, Massachusetts, enters his second professional season after splitting 2007-08 between the AHL's Lowell Devils and the Trenton Devils of the ECHL. Rooney registered three goals in 13 games for Lowell to add to 14-goal, 21-assist totals for Trenton in 50 contests. Prior to turning pro, Rooney enjoyed four college seasons with the Boston College Eagles, amassing 86 points (29g, 57a) in 154 games. His college years were filled with many accolades, including but not limited to being named the Hockey East's Best Defensive Forward as a senior, the James E. Tiernan Memorial Award as the Eagles' Most Improved Player as a junior and the Bernie Burke Outstanding Freshman Award as a first-year player.

Harrison, 24, leaves Providence after two preseason games in which he compiled 22 PIM and a plus-one rating. Undrafted, Harrison spent his first full pro season in Trenton in 2007-08, playing with Rooney and totaling six points (3g, 3a) and 239 PIM in 63 games. The defenseman had prior professional experience in 2004-05 with the Reading Royals of the ECHL, earning 12 PIM.  A native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Harrison also spent significant time in junior and college hockey, playing for the Ontario Hockey League's Saginaw Spirit and Kitchener Rangers, as well as the University of Western Ontario Mustangs.

Martin, 26, earned one assist and a plus-two rating in two preseason games for the P-Bruins. In 2007-08, the blue-liner suited up for three different teams, including the AHL's Peoria Rivermen, the Alaska Aces of the ECHL and Strasbourg in France. Entering his fifth pro season, Martin has also spent time with the Lubbock Cotton Kings in the Central Hockey League and the ECHL's Long Beach Ice Dogs, Columbia Inferno and Texas Wildcatters. As a pro in North America, Martin has 80 points (17g, 63a) and 218 PIM in 223 games. Prior, the undrafted native of Timmins, Ontario, played for the St. Mary's University Cardinals and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Hull Olympiques.
